You're right, but they had it 112 yesterday
I wonder where did that extra 5th set ace came from.

Maybe they watched it later on video to check if it was right?
Probably the chair umpire forgot one...

Same with Karlovic in 2005:

"The chair umpire's scorecard for the first-round match showed Karlovic had 55 aces against Daniele Bracciali.

Postmatch statistics credited Karlovic with 51. Tournament statisticians reviewed a tape of the match and concluded that total was accurate, Wimbledon spokesman Johnny Perkins said." Source

Could you please do it the other way around, i.e. counting for the players the times they watched 30+ aces passing by them?
It would be interesting.

Can this be the Grand Slam with most aces ever?

Already more than all the other Grand Slams since AO 2009, but I don't know what the record is/was. Possibly a Wimbledon tournament when the grass were faster.

Default Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

Don't know if they've already been mentioned (they're quite famous, I think) but I've found some oldies (pre 1991):

59 - Ed Kauder (US Championship 1955) 5 sets, lost to Ham Richardson [2-6, 6-3, 11-9, 8-10, 0-6] [according to Bud Collins, was the record, until Karlovic broke it with 78]
42 - John Feaver (Wimbledon 1976] 5 sets, lost to John Newcombe [3-6, 6-3, 9-8, 4-6, 4-6] [record at Wimbledon until Goran broke it; tie-break at 8-All in those days ??]

My favourite is this one:

30 - Ellsworth Vines [Wimbledon 1932] 3 sets, defeated Bunny Austin [6/4 6/2 6/0 !!!!!!!!]
30 aces in 12 service games. 2.5 aces per game. It should be close to the Philippoussis/Black match as far as the ace/serve ratio is concerned. I know Vines had one of the best serves of his time but what the hell happened to Bunny Austin !!

Default Re: Most aces hit in a match (more than 30)

I brought details about the Kauder match just two pages back.
Haven't heard of the other ones. Interesting, especially the Vines match
Assuming he served less then 67 points in those 12 games, his ace/serve ratio is better than Philippoussis'. Also if that stat is verified, it would be very strange if he didn't have a few more 30+ ace matches in his career.

Most tournaments had TBs at 8-8 since their implementation in the early '70s until 1979.
