i left after the 5th game, 2nd set of Chiudi's match (he played well) to catch my train back to Bern. didn't realize they were only gonna play 2 sets, Eve sent me an sms, the supporters had an apero with the players and she said Roger made jokes and they talked a lot to Marco. I watched Roger practice with Stan this morning before the matches started.

had a great time, good to see a lot of Fed fans there! :wavey:

and Roger played awesome today. he was very focused. the doubles match yesterday was great too! :)

btw., Ana Ivanovic was also there supporting the Serbian players.

and Roger's parents, sister & bf were around, also Stan's parents and siblings. Chiudi's mom and dad were also there today.

ahh, again in Geneva????

(si)

Sorry, I can feel you are indeed biased. Good for you, because you are living in that region, but Swiss Tennis actually promised that next time it was going to be held in the German part of Switzerland,, but the problems are not worse audiences, worse place to play tennis,, but simply, the halls are occupied for maybe other sporting events like ice hockeys. And also those possible halls didn't have big enough capacity. But, Palexpo Geneva isn't the biggest hall, St. Jakobshalle in Basel has 9000 or more seats and Zurich's Hallenstadion has even more, I think. It is just a bad timing.

If DC was held in St. Gallen for 3 or 4 times in a row, I would feel really sorry for the fans from your region...

Bern would have been ideal, in between the Röstigraben, and its the capital...

unfortunately the Allmend stadium does not have enough sitting places with its 16,000 capacity, and yes, there is still ice hockey. i can imagine the fans going bunkers if their sport is moved somewhere...

why did someone start that other DC team thread?? it's a waste...

LĂĽthi has selected Wawrinka, Chiudinelli, Bastl, and Allegro for the coming DC match up against Spain. He says he is too 100% sure that Roger won't change his mind.

Daviscup-Aufgebot ohne Ăśberraschung
Der Schweizer Captain Severin LĂĽthi wird die erwarteten vier Spieler ins Kader fĂĽr die Daviscup-Partie gegen Spanien (9.-11. Februar) berufen.

(tri)

I totally agree!

Even though he lost 2 matches he should've, could've, would've won ;) early this year, the last 6 months he's been playing great tennis reaching the final in louisville (50'000 $), beating good players on the way, as well as the double final in durban (125'000 $)!

Maybe he will play his first DC match on sunday if there's a dead rubber!

Swiss Davis Cup team upbeat despite absence of Federer
Tue Feb 6, 2007
By Mark Ledsom

GENEVA, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Switzerland's Davis Cup team say they are ready to make life difficult for Spain this weekend, despite going into their World Group first-round encounter without the services of Roger Federer.
The world number one is once again skipping the competition's opening round to concentrate on his own flourishing career, leaving compatriots Stanislas Wawrinka, Marco Chiudinelli, Yves Allegro and Stephane Bohli to take on a powerful Spanish team led by world number two Rafael Nadal.
"Having the world number one playing for us would of course be a big advantage," Switzerland captain Severin Luethi said on Tuesday. "Without Federer, the Spanish are going to start as clear favourites, especially when you look at their rankings.
"But we have seen many times that anything is possible in the Davis Cup. We have home advantage, the choice of playing surface and a Swiss crowd behind us so I'm sure it won't be easy for Spain this weekend."
Wawrinka, ranked 32nd in the world, will carry the weight of his country's expectations against the three-times Davis Cup champions.
If the tie has not been decided by Saturday, Wawrinka could face a crunch meeting with Nadal on Sunday -- just three weeks after losing 6-2 6-2 6-2 to the Spaniard in the third round of the Australian Open.
"I think with the fast carpet surface in Geneva things will be very different if we meet again here," Wawrinka said. "But (as Switzerland's top seed) I'm not going to be playing Nadal on the first day and that's all we're concentrating on now."
Unlike Wawrinka, Swiss doubles specialist Yves Allegro has recent history on his side, having paired up with France's Fabrice Santoro last week to beat Feliciano Lopez and Fernando Verdasco in the first round of the Zagreb ATP tournament.
"It's a different surface, a different competition and it's the Davis Cup, so we shouldn't read too much into it," said Allegro who is likely to play alongside Wawrinka against the same opposition on Saturday.
"But I'm happier to have beaten them last week than to have lost because it will give us some confidence that we can win here in Geneva."
A more unusual challenge facing the Swiss is the number of left-handers in the Spanish team, with Nadal, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez outnumbering sole right-hander David Ferrer.
Luethi said his team had brought in two left-handed "sparring partners", including Wawrinka's manager Gregory Zavialoff, as part of their preparations for the tie.

The other left-handed player is michael kurz (1986) who played a couple of futures a few years ago!

He arrived in geneva this morning and already praticed with the players. He's probably the best left-hander we have in switzerland with sadecky (1987)!
