Federer could get the records for most Aus Open wins and French Open wins, both standing at 56 and held by Edberg resp. Vilas if I'm not mistaken. Needs another 2 resp. 13 to tie them.
Well, his first shot at the FO record is next year, but he's only got 49 at present. A SF will put him at 2nd all time.

Big year coming up. Has a chance to pass Agassi on hard and Sampras on Grass/Wimbly, and Connors overall.

I don't think there's been anybody who's done as well on the slams as he has.

#35 ·
Congrats on tying Connors, Fed.

At RG - Fed could pass, Connors total, Lendl, and Agassi for total on the dirt. Not bad for someone who isn't a claycourter. ;) Could climb as high as second all-time, behind Vilas.

That is really surprising when you think about it. Connors plays for 20+ years and wins eight, Sampras plays for a much shorter time and wins 14, and still Connors has more wins pr average.
It's one of the reasons why Connors is vastly underrated in the GOAT discussions. In 35 consecutive slams entered, he fell short of the QF only once.

Federer has an amazing record of 33/33 slams, but, still has a little ways to go to break Connor's record. Two more slam QFs will do it.

Kevin Curren has the honor of being the only man in 35 slams entered to defeat Jimmy Connors before the QF. On court 2 the 'Graveyard of champions'.

So Fed needs to reach the Semis at the French Open to Surpass Vilas for the most wins at RG.

#49 ·
Yes. And Nadal needs to win to achieve the same.

It is a bit strange the RG has a record as "low" as 58. In the US Open, Federer is just 6th with 64 wins. In Wimbledon, Sampras' 63 is only good enough for 4th. The AO having 56 as the old record before Fed improved it was less surprising, considering the lower status it used to have.

#50 ·
Not really surprising. The biggest champion was Borg (who quit at 26). Lendl did well, but was done by 30. Since then there hasn't really been a significant star at the event.

No and no. Australian Open had just six matches for a long time, 1982 was the first year with seven rounds, plus a lot of the non-Aussie top players were missing until the late 80s. Also, it was Bo3 in early rounds not only in AO but in a couple of the others as well. In AO it was Bo3 in R1 (R64 then) until 1975.

US Open had Bo3 in R1 and R2 in 1978. And Bo3 even in R3 in 1977 and earlier.

RG had Bo3 in R1 and R2 until 1976.

Federer needs just 2 more wins at RG to have the most wins on all 3 surfaces at 60, passing Connors. Another Connors' record will hopefully fall.
