aka High School Backstabbing Contest.

Yes it is that time again. The ACC is over and now it is time to crown the most popular poster on MTF. MTF is in a bit of a flux these days with many new people.

I will take my cues from Nathii's running of the 2010 contest, a contest she ran exceptionally well.

1. This year's edition is run by myself, Johnny Groove and Freak3yman84.

2. The idea is to choose the most popular poster on MTF. Everyone has got their own definition of "popularity," but remember this is a positive contest - reversed to ACC. You vote for someone you like, find intelligent, think they're good contributors to the board, are charismatic, funny, awesome.

3. Nominations will run for a few days, maybe a week, until we get sufficient nominations. 128 probably, but maybe more or less. Seedings will be done by nominations.

4. You must have at least 300 posts to add a nomination because of the sad experiences with double accounts in the past (this gives some more safety). There are no restrictions to how many people you nominate, but you are only allowed to nominate a given poster once.

5. Note to everyone - if you want to insult someone, go to the ACC threads. This one is opened already now because word on a street says there will be also other contests and all should close before Christmas, when people are still around the computer and can participate.

6. We don't mind a little bit of controversy - it occurs every year and makes things more entertaining, but it needs to be at moderate level. You are allowed to give reasons to the votes and the previous editions have clearly showed on average basis this is *not* an arselicking contest (if you have doubts, take your time to read threads from the previous years rather than base of own first impression). Jokes are jokes, but if someone feels *seriously* harassed do not hesitate to send us a PM. We'd like to handle this behind the scenes alone or with a mod participation if unsolvable otherwise.

Reminder: A semifinalist from two years ago, bad gambler, not only didn't beg or campaign but was unaware he achieved that round! A finalist from last year, Peta Pan, didn't campaign herself and didn't have anyone else doing it for her! A semifinalist, adee-gee, was away from the computer in a foreign country and barely aware how he was progressing here! A quarterfinalist, TMJordan, was on holiday in Miami and didn't vote/beg/campaign/post at all! You cannot say only being fake nice during the contests lifts you up high here. No.

8. Withdrawals are generally not accepted especially for the reasons like "I am afraid I will not win," "This contest is run by a Rafatard and a manipulative bitch," "I may not get as many votes as I would like," "I was away for the whole year and nobody knows me anymore, and I probably will lose in R1," I am too old for this," "I don't have enough v-cash to buy votes and bad gambler's account disappeared so he won't give me a present," "A person who doesn't like me might vote for my opponent on purpose" If you really have a valid reason send us a PM and we will discuss it.

If there are any more rules that need to be discussed, I will add them here.

How was it possible that a guy with multiple accounts was running this contest?
Maybe all those multiple accounts were reason he was doing a shitty job.

I don't have time to write a 3,000 word essay (sorry Andrey ) as I am currently really late for the Christmas party that I'm going to :hearts:, so I'll just say a few things:

1. Congrats to viruzzz for making it to the final! Very deserving finalist for his contributions to GM and making me laugh out loud in real life with some of his fantastic posts, and of course, his contributions to Fed forum. :D

2. Congrats to Andrey and George for making to to the SF (and Andrey for winning the bronze medal :hearts:), especially George the noob for making it that far. :hearts:

3. Thanks to everyone that voted for me - I was shocked when I was seeded #1, didn't expect to win, and am genuinely surprised that a few people seem to like me. :speakles:

4. Special thanks to Nathaliia, Thanos, silverwhite and Gagsquet for the constant support and enthusiasm throughout the whole contest, especially SW who got a few of his TF buddies to vote for me.

5. Thanks also to the posters that consistently voted for me throughout the contest (to name a few names, Hewitt =Legend, Thanos, Nathaliia, SW, Gagsquet's pr0xy [why the hell is this word censored? :stupid:], Sham Kay, Chirag, Keech, 156mphserve, Deathless Mortal...if I wasn't in a rush I'd list everyone alas I'm sorry) - it means a lot. :awww:

6. In case you guys didn't know, silverwhite is the PopCon winner over at TennisForum and he's Singaporean like me, so Singapore rocks. :hearts:

7. Thanks to our poor banned friend, Johnny Groove, for organising this contest. :yeah: Could've gone more smoothly at times but overall a job well done. :yeah:

8. Finally, I've had a pretty rough 2012 to put it mildly (though my last two months in London were absolutely fantastic), so this is a nice way to balance out the crappy shit in my life. :)

Thanks again. :)

Hard to mistake two users using the same IP.. obviously why would he admit it even to someone close? Maybe it was a really embarrassing account or one that may get him ridiculed nonstop. I don't think that account was his though, the likes and posting styles of that account seem to not be consistent with him.

#1,498 ·
It could be this one also. In the banned members list is says Double accounts. So it could be that there was more than one .

But if Groove says he is innocent i believe him. Don't see where is the point in denying if he was already spotted. But again even if he made it this 3 months ban for this reason is a joke. Equal this with wishing death  . Specially with good posters like Johnny, I mean he wasn't attacking anybody, wasn't writing offensive posts and the most important thing he contributed with great threads and good on-game opinions

Would really like to see what is the principle of finding out DA . If somebody is doing it he knows what he is doing, IP address has 10 numbers in it so even if you use the same PC for it after every router restart at least few last numbers are changing, it still would be showing the same area or town but it can't be 100% accurate if you restart router and clean the cookies before logging in. So only 100% accurate way of finding it is statical IP or logging in without restarting internet router . Pretty rookie mistake for somebody so passionante in it

I mean, I am often logging in from public library so there are good chances that some other MTF posters could use it because there is something like 10 PCs

Restarting router doesn't mean you'll get a new IP address every time; an address lease can last few days depending on your provider's settings. Moreover, even if you use 10 computers, that usually doesn't mean you posted 10% of your posts from each. More likely you posted majority of posts from few different ones, if not from just one computer. The style of posting/expressing also counts and I guess in the end it all adds up.

Of course, one could be careful and avoid all that, but guys who make DAs usually aren't that sophisticated I guess

Congratulations to tripwires. That said, how was viruzzzz in the final? Anyone care to tell me?

#1,501 ·
He's a good poster and a really nice guy. He doesn't bash anyone and is very genuine. Sorry if that's not very flashy, but it's more appreciated than all the gimmicks and fake-ass personalities on here.

From what I've seen, he tries to be funny and, most of the time, fails. Oh well, he didn't win, so that's fine. Tripwires, deserved #1 seed!!

I fail to see the problem with double accounts and why it is a bannable offense. I mean, who cares if someone has two accounts, does this represent a disruption for the forum or something? No, there could possibly even be someone with two accounts both used to contribute positively to the forum. DAs are only a real issue if they are used to disrupt the forum, and in that case people should be banned for forum disruptions not for being a double account.

Besides its complete pointlessness, another problem with this rule is that it favors malicious people over naive ones. In short, it's easier to go undetected as a double account (in fact it's very easy) if you do it intentionally (if you plan it) than if it happens by accident (say a friend of yours comes to your house and creates an account as a joke, you create an account for purely joking purposes). It's definitely one of the most inane rules I've seen online, although it's far from exclusive to this forum. There's nothing inherently wrong with having two or even more accounts.

You are either very new to internet forums or very naive :p Of course they are going to be used for some kind of forum disruption, one account is all you need if you want to contribute positively. Of course, I'm not counting here the cases when someone forgot his user and/or password, then created new one instead of recovering the old one, such things are rarely a problem.

Wow, I was busy studying for the last couple days, i missed so much

Congrats trips

Wait, let me get this straight...Groove had a double account registered and ready to go after he announced his "retirement" from MTF and started posting on that shortly after?

Damn, this kid's life must be pathetic:
- Conjured up all these stories about his life in which he got shot, stabbed, had a baby and subsequently killed him off, had inordinate amounts of sex, and pretended to be and type "drunk"
- Talked about being a top 100 player in a few years yet can't win a round of qualifying in a futures event at age of 20+
- Tried to retire from a message board and come back with a fresh start under a new username and got caught :rolls:

#1,529 ·
This is why I'm not surprised at all if this double account is actually the case. From JG's posts in NT, he has appeared as pretty dramatic more often than not.. Not going to bash him though, since he is one of the more sensible fans of Rafa on MTF, but he definitely has some reassurance and self-esteem issues (?) at least that is what it appears.

I think I forgot to congratulate everyone.

Congrats trips on a deserved title :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:
Grats to viruzzz for making the final

Congrats to Hewitt =Legend and the Bulldog as well, though I think you guys were the first ever to contest a bronze medal match :p.

Thanks to JG for organizing and anyone who helped count votes :)
