An really good week last week. Hopefully he does an another one this week and secure an WC to Stockholm Open. In the race for the WC is Markus Eriksson currently in the lead, Ymer second, Blomgren and Windahl third and fourth if you look at the points during the rising star tour. Good luck to Ymer and Windahl!
Elias Ymer could become the youngest player to play for Sweden since Mats Wilander made his debut in 1981 after he replaced Patrik Rosenholm in the Swedish squad to face Denmark in their Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Europe/Africa Zone Group I relegation play-off.
Ymer will be just 17 years and 198 days old on Friday and has spent most of his year playing in Junior tournaments. His biggest success in Juniors actually came at the end of 2012, when he reached the semifinals of the prestigious Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships and the final of the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship. On both occasions he narrowly lost to Laslo Djere.
He competed in all four Junior Grand Slams but was only able to progress past the first round in one of them, the Junior US Open Championships. The draws were unkind to the young Swede who suffered losses to Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund, Germany’s Alexander Zverev and Chile’s Christian Garin in three of the four Grand Slams.
All three of those players have been ranked inside the Top 10 in the Junior rankings, and are considered the future of their nations’ Davis Cup teams.
Ymer’s best result on the Pro Circuit this year came in the Sweden F6 Futures event in September where he reached the final, losing in three sets to Adrien Bossel. He also reached the semifinals of the Portugal F2 Futures event in March.
He also came close to making a name for himself when he received a wildcard into the first round at Bastad, his first ATP Tour-level event. Facing Grigor Dimitrov in the first round, Ymer won the opening set 75 but could not convert his great start into a victory, eventually losing 75 26 46.
the worst Tennis times have come for sweden...were never so down...
denmark is just a part time Tennis Team
and i think if sweden is relegated they will not come back for years..cause Teams like Estonia with Zopp, Greece with Angelinos and even Egypt or Ireland are tough opponents for a swedish Team without any top players
2-2 and Ymer going up in the deciding rubber vs Pedersen.
Wish I could say I'm positive but it could become too big for a young player (17 yo) having an entire teams fate on his shoulders. Time to show what he's made of
Just lost the third 6-4 and down a break now, he has a huge FH & decent serve if he keep improving and can get some consistently he be great but he still young & got time
