In tennis, you often get players who are hyped to the moon by everyone, but you don't see what the big deal is. You often get players who are rated higher than you think they should be.
So which players are over-rated or over-hyped on this forum in your opinion?
Explainations to back up your arguments would be good
Dolgopolov - some people talk about him as a future star but he's older than Delpo who actually won a Slam. Good player to watch but won't be one of the big guns.
Rosol - most people hype him up as the next big thing, yet he's done nothing apart from beating Nadal.
Safin by a mile. He is treated like a god by some on here and while winning 2 GS is undeniably impressive, beyond that, he achieved relatively little. He also came across as a spoiled brat most of the time.
Some here make him out to be a god, pah! A mug servebot got exposed good by Hewitt & co, only ever beat his GIMPs Andre, Goran and Chang. Terrible on clay, a good joker, what a hopeless fail, disgraceful vulturing of first Wimbledon from grass mug Courier.
So boring that tennis became a regular in care homes to send patients to sleep. The 80s had Connors, JMac, Lendo, Becker, Edberg, Wilander, the 90s had Mugpras and his cronies. Disgusting clown.
Goffin - as much as i like the lad, i think he doesn't have enough for much more than that
Jerzy - very good CH player, but need to prove his high level ATP status first and often those find it hard to cover
Klizan - doesn't belong where he actually is imo.
Tomic - i don't see where all the big expectations come from tbh. Once his psychedelic style gets uncovered (1-2 years in ATP) and he's the next Stakhovsky, or OK, maybe Cilic
Nalbandian, while a very good player on his day, seems to have acquired god-like abilities and an almost perfect set of skills on this forum by many.
He was a decent player, good ball striker, when he was younger. But never THAT good. Lacked a decent serve, mentally in bits, fitness...well let's not even go there.
His ball-striking abilities are the ones always being praised. Nobody ever said his serve, and of course, his fitness were great. Everyone knew they were his weaknesses.
