The tournament would be on São Paulo and will be with the 7 players who get more points with Challengers and with one Wild Card that São Paulo would give.
Prize Money of the tournament would be 220.000 Dolars!
I don't know if this information is true.
On a blog of Dalcim that is from TenisBrasil (Greatest Forum of Tenis on Brazil) he asked this on portuguese:
This on portuguese is talking that Brazil would win a tournament with Points to Ranking ATP with less money than Brasil Open ( ATP 250 ).
And the son of a great commentator talked in one Forum that the tournament would be a Challenger Tour Finals.
I don't know if the rumors are true. Anyone can confirm? And if it's true what do you think about this tournament?
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
Yes Its true I have seen it from contact with one of the organziers of the event Koch tavares. It will be like a MC for challengers the best 8 challenger players of the year and it will have a considerable money prize for the winner 92 thousand dollars. In my view it would be better to bring another ATP tournament to Brazil or make it a 500, but it will be very close to my house and is a chance of seeing some good tennis.
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
Thanks amirbachar for the link. The list is very interesting and there is a little point gaps between the players. I suppose it might be many changes till the end of the season.
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
Luis Felipe Tavares, founder of the project ATP Challenger Tour Finals, just announced that the Brazilian high-rank player Thomaz Bellucci will receive the WC (wild card) as the ''home player''. He just won't receive it, if he breaks into Top10 on ATP Singles Rankings. A Top10 player can't play any Challenger events, according with rules.
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
I like the concept and i also think it's a great idea but i think it should've been the first 8 players with best results in challenger tour not 7 + 1 WC
Bellucci is not a challenger level player anymore so i don't know why he is getting a WC
If Bellucci plays, many of player probably won't have a chance
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
Last year there was a thread on MTF "can Bellucci win RG" and now he will play a challenger final... the mighty has fallen! I also think the WC should be given to the highest ranked Brazilian in the challenger ranking, or at least to some journeyman who balances between challengers and ATP (so he doesn't have as many chall. points as he could) like Mello!
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
After Stebe's two titles in Asia he should make a huge jump into the top 10 of that list. Another week like that in Ningbo and he will most likely secure his spot in the top 7
Does anybody know how many ranking points the winner will be awarded? Will they have a system similar to the World Tour Finals?
Btw, I guess Rosol and especially Machado and Prodon are not really happy that the finals will be played on indoor hardcourt
Re: Challenger Tour Finals - São Paulo on Harmony Club
That´s a great idea. I´m also interested in points system on this tournament. Klizan is leading the race now, he needs probably one more good challenger to secure the spot in Brazil. But he is also not very comfortable on indoor hardcourts, although there are also worse players than him in this...
Istomin and Sela have given up on qualifing to the Challenger Tour Finals
They are not signed up to any challenger in the next 3 weeks.
This is a really stupid decision, because they could really do well there in this indoor hard tournament with most players being clay specialists...
Istomin won 4 challengers this year and Sela won 3.
This is the current race: http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/YTD-Challenger-Rankings.aspx
7 best players (10 best challenger results count) + Belluci (WC) play in the same format as the WTF.
An undefeated winner will get 92000$ as prize money.
The ranking points are not published yet, but I expect it to be 20 for each round robin win, 40 for the semis, and 50 for the final.
