Round 1:

Simone Bolelli v Alex Bogdanovic (WC)
Fabio Fognini v Marat Safin
(30) Andreas Seppi v Tobias Kamke (LL)
Filippo Volandri v Bobby Reynolds
Potito Starace v Sebastien Grosjean
(Q) Stefano Galvani v Jamie Baker (WC)

I suppose Bolelli, Seppi and possibly Galvani have a chance at going to R2. Starace will lose to Grosjean, but Seba has been getting injured alot so if he retires maybe... Fognini and Volandri will be out.

I expect Seppi and Galvani to go through
dunno about Bolelli, Boggo isnt a bad player on grass

Great start for Seppi and Bolelli... especially Simo as it was a tough match. Volandri retired after 2 sets and Fognini went out in 3 sets to Safin.

Superstef has a chance of going further IMO

Yes Youzhny is not great on grass, but difficult still. Good stuff from Bolelli and Seppi to get to R3. Seppi against which Safin will turn up?

all gone *sigh*

Wimbledon is the least favourite surface of nearly all Italians so we did well to have 2 in the 3rd round :)

Will still be commenting on the juniors. Gianessi looks likely to go through R1... currently a set and break up.

let's see if they can do better this year

already great first round with 4/5 going through

Not only this, but also from the womens there was 5 out of 7 going through (1 exited to another Italian too)... so a good start for Italian players in general.

The next round is far tougher for most. Seppi will be disappointed if he flops to Gicquel though. He should fancy his chances of R3 after a huge win against Blake. Fognini and Starace had retired opponents, going any furhter than R2 would be minor miracle for 2 clear clay courters :D Bolelli against Tsonga, well if he gives 100% thats all you would ask. Should be disappointed not to be on a better court than court 3 (old court 2) though.

The best opening round for Italian players since 1911.

Highlights for me were Seppi's win over Blake, Schiavone's win over Wozniacki and Starace destroying Tursonov before he retired.

Forza
Acasuso

Tursunov would have been incredible

Also good luck to the 3 ladies left. I think 2 of them have some chance to advance. Vinci is surely a gonna against Serena Williams. Hope she shows her best.

Schiavone also beat Wozniak (Canadian), not Wozniacki (Danish) who is alot better.

Anyway, 4 players advance to round 3.

Great fight from Starace against Stepanek, to take him to 5 sets, and we all know Poto is normally useless on the grass. Seppi managed to win in 5, done well after having to come back to play being 2-1 up over night. Also, Bolelli pulled out, which was a shame, him v Tsonga would have been a good match and Fognini lost easily to Ferrer which was expected really.
