Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Pushing tennis from Mecir jr. guaranteed him a spot in MD. Shame he defeated Thiem, young Austrian hope deserved to qualify.

By the way, qualifiers has been placed to the draw :

Mertinak vs. Kovalik
Mecir vs. Ignatik
Begemann vs. Alves
Belloti vs. Dodig

All matches will be played tomorrow.

Schedule here : http://www.slovakopen2012.sk/fileadmin/user_upload/2012/OP_tuesday.pdf

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Lacko/Hajek roasted Marchenko/Sergeyev 61,63. Ukrainians looked very relaxed on court, smiling, laughing, waving to camera :) Karlovic/Berrer next.

Hajek played very good doubles match, if he can keep it up I can see him going deep here. Lacko was slightly worse.

I have to say, I'm a bit surprised to see Hajek back already, after having to retire last week, due to a heart scare.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Karlovic def. Berrer 76 64. Mischa was better particulary in first set, up 1-0* 40-0* but couldn´t convert. One minibreak decided in TB.

At 5-4* for Karlovic in the second, he shockingly went 40-15 up and converted first MP. Overall it was standard from Ivo, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Capkovic d. Delbonis 7-5, 6-3. This came as a surprise to me, cause I know Delbonis is a decent hardcourter. Delbonis played his standard, he wasn´t bad. But Capkovic played really really well. I wasn´t following Kamil for quite some time, but he almost shocked me today. He was moving and defending really well, returning perfectly and also made some nice damage with his forehand. He could be the biggest threat for Lacko/Bachinger in R2 as most would expect.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

I'm starting to lose faith in Delbo, so much potential not being fulfilled... it almost seems as his footwork nowadays is worse than at the beginning of his career too  I hope he fully commits next year to try and get his ranking up by playing a lot in the SA Challengers and getting confidence back.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Lacko looks very comfortable out there. Lukas is always questionable but here he absolutely crushed potentially dangerous Bachinger in 61 minutes - 6-2, 6-2. Was doing almost everything right. Capkovic was very solid, but Lacko plays just way faster so he should be absolutely OK there. Looks like Lukas knows very well how important for him is to defend his title here.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Today was fun in Bratislava, look forward to interviews with Rochus, Stakhovsky, Sergeyev, Rosol, Delbonis, Capkovic or Dodig @Tennis Alternative. Hopefully I will get Lacko, Dr.Ivo and Gulbis tomorrow.

Court in Bratislava is really quick as players say - these challengers are even better than ATP tour, really.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

I went today to see bits of Mertinak - Kovalik and Dancevic - Sergeyev match. Mertinak looked the far better player, I hope Kovalik isn't the future of slovak tennis :( he has a lot of things to work on. Dancevic looked very solid but Sergeyev, despite his heigth (or shorth? :)) had a great serve, had not a problem of serving 2-3 aces per game.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Good stuff by the local Slovak players so far. Lacko, Gombos(WC) (nice win vs Kunitsyn!), Mertinak(Q) and Capkovic(WC) already in the 2nd round! And Mecir jr. was also very solid and came very close vs tough opponent (Ignatik). Youngster Kovalik played nothing special, I expected more from him (he improved his serve a bit, that´s the only positive). Horansky got an unplayable opponent in Hajek. 2 more local boys with the chance to squeeze into R2, Klec is in against Stakhovsky and Andrej Martin vs. O.Rochus, but of course both as the very clear underdogs there.

I have to say, that the quality of tennis in Bratislava is very good so far. Courts are extremely fast and players are focused for the strong finish of the season. Lacko, Dodig, Hajek and surprisingly Sergeyev(who served out of his mind, I was shocked..) showed probably the best tennis so far, but tournament is wide open, so many good players in it.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Why Klec?? He lost in the 1R of quali... :(
I guess, Gulbis´s decision was too late and all potential LLers were already out of Bratislava... Klec was at the place, so he is playing. Everybody out of that group of LLers would very probably lose against Stakh, so it´s not a big deal. But at least young talented Thiem (he´s from Austria, which is very close to Bratislava) would be definitely a more interesting choice and he would deserve it more, but we can only guess what´s up in this case.. As for Klec, he´s struggling and is without potential. That´s a definiton of walking bye for Stakh.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

Very nice rallies in O.Rochus-A.Martin (6-4, 3-6, 2*-2). Very similar styles by both players, Andrej Martin was the better player so far, but Rochus managed to hold a lot of service games when facing BPs.

Re: Week 45 : Bratislava (Entry List)

YES! Andrej Martin with a well deserved break to 5*-4. He´s a clearly better player in this one, playing probably one of the best matches of his life. Please, don´t choke it now.. EDIT: And of course, he choked it :-( he was so nervous there. Olli has that experience which is clearly paying off now.
