in fact federer had more potential than pete (who was very much a SERVER in the serve and volley ability)
Rafter for example had better volleys than both guys-
federer (had he not abandoned the volley because of sand paper courts) could have been as good as edberg with the volley
the term textbook is usually throttled out - but in the case of federer its very much on point
he is textbook perfection in all shots- and in the case of his legendary forehand- he rewrote the textbook
hey, Doc- slight exaggeration but i (sorta) agree with what you're saying about pete's volley's being overrated
(theres a rule against porn on this site, but i couldn't resist- enjoy)
Most players have a better backhand volley because the blocking motion is more natural. On the forehand there is always the temptation to swing too much.
