[5] QUERREY, Sam (USA) vs BLAKE, James (USA)
GICQUEL, Marc (FRA) vs PETZSCHNER, Philipp (GER)
SERRA, Florent (FRA) vs QUALIFIER
DENT, Taylor (USA) vs [3] MONFILS, Gael (FRA)
So odd to see James being unseeded
Blake leads 5-1 in the Head-to-Head against Querrey (but each times it was a difficult match : 5 matches in three sets and 5 tie breaks !) It's gonna be difficult but if Blake go trough this match he will probably go easier to the quaterfinal (maybe against Monfils).
Sam is a tough 1st Round match. He's just back after the arm injury, so who knows how well he will be. I like James' chances, that is unless Querrey turns into the ace-hitting machine he was at Indianapolis '07.
I think I'm used to it outside of slams since he wasn't seeded at most of his tournaments last fall. But being ranked at #44 now, he's extremely unlikely to be seeded for the Australian Open - the first time he would be unseeded at a slam since the 2005 US Open. The good thing about his low ranking is he won't be required to play at four 500 events this year.
it's really important for James to begin this year with some good results, i still belive in James' abilities and skills, even though he's 30 now. can't wait to see him on the court
I didn't start watching until the end of the 1st set, so I'm not sure what happened there. But he looked like his usual self - aggressive and going for shots, lots of winners and errors. He was really bashing the hell out of the ball. He hit a couple fast return-of-serve winners that made the crowd gasp real loud.
Good start to the year for James.
James will face Gicquel in the 2nd Rd. H2H is 2-0 - last meeting was in Estoril last year.
If James had won with him on clay, he wins on hardcourt Tomorrow James and Andy plays their singles matches, and also at the end of the day they play doubles.
So I see James lost against Monfils in 3. Not surprising, but at least he fought hard. He's still alive in doubles though. He & Andy will face Chardy/Gicquel on Saturday.
James played some matches so far, it's good for him before AO... I hope he will repeat last year result, at least!;D and of course good luck for him and Andy in doubles SF
James & Andy lost the doubles SF - 4-6 6-3 11-13. :awww:
I was watching the livescore (how fun! :lol. Their 2 DF's and 0/4 on 2nd serve points in the super-TB did them in.
they could have won it it would be good for James to play one short match more before AO i've just read some raltions from matches against Gicquel and Monfils, and i think that James is good prepared for this season. but we'll be sure during AO
A good start to his season in Brisbane. To begin the season with some wins was very important. Singles and doubles, he did good. It's good he seems to have gotten over all the annoying injuries he had last year, and looks fit and healthy. I'll be supporting James 100%, good luck to him at the AO.
Fourth round isn't THAT many points. Let's just see what happens. I don't think a well-playing James beating Del Potro is that hard to imagine.
The Men's Doubles draw is out.
James & Mardy teamed up (James filling in for the injured Mark Knowles) and are the #16 seed. They face Marc Lopez & Santiago Ventura in the 1st Round. If they play well, they will likely face the Bryans in the 3rd Round.
Day 1 OOP - James is last on Court 6 not before 5pm (which is 1am ET). Court 6 is one of the six courts listed for the AO official site online stream, so it must have a camera for TV.
I hope James gets to play on Laver at some stage (probably R2). It'll be the only way I can see him.
