He trains at Juan Carlos Ferrero's Equelite Academy.
He's received his first ever WC for an ATP Tour event already.
Aged 20, currently ranked 851.

i was just going to start a thread about him, but you beat me to it.
not only is he lucky to have gotten this wildcard, but he has been lucky with his first round draw. saying that, he'll still lose.

He takes the first set 7-6(2).
This could be an extraordinary revelation.
Imagine winning an ATP match before even playing a challenger match.
Indeed there must have been a reason why they gave him the WC.

James lost 7-6 4-6 3-6
Good fight but too many important points lost.
He converted 3/8 BPs
Gensse converted 5/6 BPs

instead gensse won an atp match before even playing a challenger

good effort form James Ward against a player ranked far above him!
If only Mackin had beaten Gensse in qualifying we could have had a definate Brit in R2.
Should be great experience for Ward. He's back on futures tour in Spain F14 next week

hats off to him. beating an unranked spaniard who was only playing his 2nd ever futures match is a fantastic achievement

he HAS TO play whoever is in front of him. (I don't think he pretends to have reached the pinnacle of his career just yet.)
you DON'T HAVE TO slag off whoever is in front of you.
Laurent Rochette is next. 6th seed. Rising through the rankings pretty fast. Will be a strong test for James.

R2: James Ward WR 853 beat (6) Laurent Rochette (FRA) WR 629 by 7-6(1) 7-6(5)
it when the joke IS pitiful that I don't laugh.
Why don't you try ACTUAL humour, rather than slagging people off and dressing people down.

James bt Coll ranked over 100 places above him 6-3 6-2 in the quarters.
He lost out to Guillermo Alcaide 6-2 6-2 in the semis.
Good week for James. 4 points will take him to into the top 800 somewhere between 770 and 787.....

It took him up 91 places to 765!!
James has a wildcard in Bournemouth this week

Lost in the first round of Bournemouth (GB F9) to Laurent Recouderc 6-2 7-5.
But there's no shame in this loss. He was the #3 seed and he went on to win the tournament, quite comfortably.

it was the worst possible draw.
James was offered a Wilcard in Edinburgh but declined.
Greece F2 next week

James is seeded 7 in Greece F2.
The event is on hard which is not known to be his best surface (clay) but which he obviously is able to practice on at the equelite academy where he trains...

that greece f2 must really be a shit tournament, judging by the amount of brits playing it. i know a couple of the people playing it and they really shouldnt be in it

you really are a sad little man! But good at alliteration.
Ward is into the semis. Good for him. He's beaten the people in front of him so far.
All British semis in a foreign futures.
Either - The Brits are improving slightly
or
(the JAZAR view) they are crap but everyone else is crapper.

i think my view must be correct. i mean miles in the semis in a joke. flanagan had a walkover and the other 2 had piss easy draws

Its a futures, not a Grand Slam. This tends to be the level of the players who enter!

it may be a futures, but its quality is poorer than normal and that is shown by the number of brits in it
