Yeah qualifying is only 2 days, saturday and sunday. I think they play 2 rounds on the Sunday.

last year they lessened the draw, i think now the MD seeds have 1st round byes.
so the qualies also has less entrants, last year they only played 4 matches on sunday and i think they were all on at the same time too which was a bit of a pain for watching. The players played 2 matches on Saturday.

maybe they will change it this yearto be more viewer friendly.

The tournament has been a 56 player draw with 8 byes as long as I can remember (at least 15 years). The unfortunate change that was inflicted by the ATP on this tournament and a couple of others (Indianapolis being one I think), is that the number of qualifying positions available was reduced from 7 to 4. :(

thanks for that, i knew the qualies had been cut but couldnt work out why, had just assumed is was due to the seeding.

Can anybody tell me why Mardy Fish is still down on the alternates list, when he has a wild card?

And by the way, if they want to give wild cards to foreign players, why not last year's runner-up Ivo Karlovic who has to qualify :shrug: instead of Flip whose deeds were donkey's years ago?
