You know what I'm talking about, guys like Ferrer, delPo, Lu, Chardy, Felo, who go around the tour playing in events where the field is extremely weak and basically a shoe-in for free points and a title. And the worst is that these guys do it all year round.
Good examples this year,
-This week, Feliciano Lopez, ranked 17 is playing a Challenger in Colombia, lol. Point whore. He's top 20 player playing in a challenger with only a handful of top 100 players lol and the rest are mugs.
-Ferrer plays in MM events like Auckland, Buenos Aires, Acapulco and so on. What a vulture. He's too good for those events.
-Lu, a top 100 player, is the worst. He's like a top 70 player and only plays challengers throughout the year and outclasses everyone to get easy points. His yearly schedule consists of Slams+Masters Series and challengers lol.
When are you considered to be a point vulturer? I mean yes players like Feliciano Lopez always have a couple of weeks in a year where they reach big points. MS QF/SF / get far in a Slam but never win titles.
Is that kinda player more or less of a point vulturer than for example Raonic who wins 3 titles in 1 1/2 season but never gets to QF of big tournaments?
The wrong thing is that Ferrer at the age of 30 is easily slapping around all youngsters, including Del Potro, and few more, which is a very wrong thing for their fans
All these greedy vultures are preventing up and coming players from having their breakthroughs. What's Isner doing in Newport ? His presence there may have cost Goffin his opening match...knowing that he probably would not win the tournament with the likes of Isner in the draw was probably a demotivating factor and partly responsible for his loss to the Becker in R1...
Unfortunately vultures are great for these small tournaments. They put them on the tennis map. I'd pay to see Isner in Newport
He is the defending champion and they probably asked him back. Maybe he likes Colombia and would rather be in a Latino city than any of the other 4 less than exciting venues.
Anyway, it is his business.
Lopez should be congratulated for bringing some big-name glamour to a small tournament and probably bringing in the fans.
It is beyond ridiculous to recognize that rankings depend on accumulating points and then criticize players for accumulating points.
 so now certain folks are claiming certain players are 'point vultures' for trying to be as sensible as possible and choose the tournaments they enter for reasons as of being able to score some nice bunch of points & cash?
Can't see anything wrong with that.
Ferrer, for instance, has been a very clever guy for choosing to play Rosmalen where he has a good chance of winning it, along with getting some nice number of practice matches on grass, whereas in either Queens or Halle his chances of getting ousted by a grass-court specialist would have been much higher. Ask Nadal for instance...
If a tournament wants to pay for a (sub-) top player to appear at their MM, and the player thinks it's a sensible idea to indeed go there, I cannot see anything wrong with that.
I think it is an age thing. Young people today have such distorted values they can even find fault with players doing what they are supposed to do. Or in MTF, they more probably think the players should have some higher purpose so that they can satisfy the need for idol worship. That's nonsense. To the players it is a job - and who doesn't want the highest salary available? How many people complaining here would say at work 'No, I don't want a Year End bonus, give it to someone else?"
Monaco and Granollers are typical vultures as well. A bit of a running trend with the hispanic grinders. The lack of talent within their game forces them to play like walls, therefore they cannot play against the big boys and can only compete in lower league tourneys. The baseline pushing is a massive hindrance to these players if they want to achieve big things in tennis. They have the fight but not the skill.
Wait isn't Monaco the one that has 2-2 against Murray and those matches all happened on big stages not 250's, He has also pushed Djokovic in the last few meetings they have had. Kohli has played 5 more tournaments than Monaco, because his more of a grinder than Monaco, Seppi too played even more events this year, his such a pusher. Well, Granollers grunting is even more unbearable than anything i've heard.
Ferrer is a bit of one, but I can also understand him playing on tiny clay tourneys because he just likes them/the surface. I actually wish murray would play that swing one of these years so he'd acclimate to clay earlier.
Play them maybe and jib the IW/Miami swing off completely. Those bone crushing, mega slow hardcourts do nothing for his body or his game and it's no wonder he's given half arsed efforts there the last few years.
Lorenzi
Seems to be building up himself nicely with challengers then as soon as he becomes eligible to compete to more ATP events he gets his ass royally royally...back to challengers for some more then back to ATP events and so forth.
That wouldn't qualify as 'vulturing' though, Lorenzi's just a medium/high level Challenger player who actually tries to play ATP events when his ranking allows it. He's not a solid top 100 player really. I don't know but it's just odd to call someone a vulture when he can't even win matches at ATP level consistently. As a matter of fact, kudos to him for actually trying at ATP level when he can get in!
There is no such thing as "vulturing." It's a stupid concept invented by frustrated haters who need to get a life instead of laughing at photo montages of players with a vulture's body...
Ferrer plays a lot, so what? He trains on different surfaces by playing weaker tournaments, gets a few points, then goes on to play major events and always holds his rank in them.
If other players are not happy, let them play as much as he does, and as consistently. The players who are ranked above him are usually the same players who beat him in major tournaments, so there is nothing to complain about. Period.
