LOL @ everyone predicting Andy's fall based on one match. There's gonna be a lot of head-scratching in Australia, no doubt about it.
Raonic just proved what has been obvious for some time to all but haters - he is a future GS champion, barring some big injury. If he keeps improving like this, he might even do it while the big guns are still around.
Disappointed for Andy - he had his chances, including a second serve on MP given to him by a DF and he put a regulation backhand long.
Still, Milos played a fabulous match, mentally as tough as I think I have ever seen him, and in the end edged it out, and perhaps deservedly so. Andy was a break up in the third set and a poor game threw that away. Andy was too up and down, while Milos stayed at a very high level all match. That consistency told in the end.
Good one that Raonic didn`t push today as he was doing in some matches I was watching last monthes. He tried to dictate the points quickly moving to net (his skills there are average though). Is shows right mentality, he won`t win big matches with another tactic.
Just as Roger used to say on his h2h with Andy, it's the big matches (slams) that matter. Murray is still 1-0 against the Canadian servebot in slams so no, ATP500 defeats don't really matter. If Andy didn't play doubles with Jamie, he would have played nearer 90% today.
Congratulations to Milos Raonic, beaten in 3 at US Open & still believed in his game, technically & mentally to win today. Better player won. Looks a great prospect!
I can handle Andy losing, contrary to some beliefs, Andy isn't unbeatable and he actually did well post Olympic/US Open (recent history suggests US Open winners struggle) so he lost, someone played better. Only thing to p!ss me off a bit, Andy's attitude, what's with that ? Wins Olympics & US Open & actually appears more angry, bitter & if possible, harder on himself. Relax for *beeps* sake, you've achieved what others doubted was possible, you will challenge for other GS titles, & IMHO win other few. Play your game, concentrate.
Well done Milos though, really like him as a player & person. Great for the game, congrats to his fans. Big win
p.s I don't think Andy will win another title this year, I think he's knackered, mentally & physically. His will is to win, his body & mind won't allow it. Just my take
