Battistone Brothers: creativity and technology combined
Posted August 18, 2008
New Haven (WTNH) -- The Battistone brothers are one of the strangest double teams around. From their interesting serve to their advanced-racquets, they are becoming well-known on the tennis circuit for their unique style.
After their first effort at a pro doubles tournament, gone sour, the Battistone brothers decided to give it another shot. Seven years later, they find themselves moving up the charts.
"We were unranked October/November of last year and 10 or 11 months later, here we are in the 200's," Brian Battistone said.
The brothers say their talent is natural and so are the racquets they use called "The Natural." It's a two-handle racquet which they says makes them better on-court.
Brian serves with his two-handle racquet with the influence of volleyball. He throws the ball in the air, jumps and spikes it over the net. "He started messing around one day with the serve you'd normally do in volleyball..consistent enough to use it in matches," Dan Battistone said.
"I think we have a great shot at being one of the best doubles teams in the world," a Battistone brother said.
