Draw of thirty-two (32) teams, both players from the same country and
not more than two (2) teams from any one (1) country, comprising:
24 Direct Acceptances
8 ITF Places
The ITF will select doubles teams from doubles nominations
received from National Associations for direct acceptance, taking
into account the recognised international singles and doubles
computer rankings of 9 June 2008 and the number and names of
players already accepted into the singles events. A maximum of
four (4) men, two (2) doubles teams, from any one country may
compete in the men’s doubles event.
Any doubles players ranked 10 or better
based on the recognised
international doubles computer rankings of 9 June 2008 will be
eligible for selection for direct acceptance for the men’s doubles
i) his nominated partner has a recognised international
singles or doubles ranking on 9 June 2008,
ii) he and his partner have been nominated as a doubles team
by their respective National Association/National Olympic
iii) the nomination does not bring the total number of male
competitors from that country to more than six (6).
Eight (8) ITF Places shall be selected for the men’s doubles
event. Selection will be based on the total number of athletes
directly accepted into the Olympic Tennis Event, the recognised
international computer rankings and geographical location.
Final qualification places will be allocated by the ITF to
doubles players based on the recognised World Ranking
and the continental/NOC representation, until a total of 86
places (male players in singles and doubles) have been allocated.
