Default Re: Alternative player ranking system

There was an interesting situation with Wawrinka this week, which illustrates how Elo ranking works.
Wawrinka reached the final in Hertogenbosch, beating lower ranked players (Darcis, Lorenzi, Chardy and Garcia-Lopez), earning 2.9+4.1+5.7+3.6=16.3 Elo points in total, but then lost in the final to Mahut, yet another a lot lower ranked player, and lost 20.4 Elo points just in that single match, thus finishing the tournament with the deficit of 4.1 Elo point despite his 4 wins and a single loss!
