Default Will Murray mediocrity on clay prevent him from reaching #1 rankings?

Murray suffers another crushing defeat on clay, completely blown out by Wawrinka, who can plays very good when he is on.

Murray always struck me as a top 20-25 players on the surface. He has some deep runs in the big tournaments, mainly due to his very high seed. But he loses a lot on the surface.

He never won a clay titles and never even reached a clay final. His record on the surface is a weak 47-31, far behind his hardcourt and grass record (282-78 and 61-14) and far behind his rankings position.

In these conditions it is hard to see him grabbing the top spot, when Nadal , Djokovic and even Federer will make much more points in this part of the season.
