I know if Vasek was playing he'd more than likely be the better option, but that's not the case so why even make a statement like that?

If I was born with talent for tennis, got the proper training, and Vasek hadn't played a day of tennis in his life then I'd be a better option for the team than Vasek.

Like your statement the above statement is a total hypothetical which doesn't matter one bit.
