You know Marat Safin was close to quitting tennis forever when he had turned 18, had been only losing since the beginning of the year and no money left before his breakthrough at RG. He got USD 30.000 from one Swiss sponsor finally whom he has never met (alledgedly), he paid the money back though.
Btw there's the same problem in Estonia, talented young athletes quit and go to work when they have no support. Zopp and Kanepi in tennis are lucky to have good sponsors still supporting them.
