I think if I were Evita's nephew's parent, I'd be tempted to give him the bike right before the competition. Like Andreea said, though, I think following through on stated consequences is important. I have one friend who used to say one thing and then if her kid bugged her enough, she'd give in. That always bothered me. She's better at not giving in now.
