Re: Steve Darcis
Steve has finally been healthy for an extended period of time without injury and his results and ranking have greatly benefited as a result. Steve started his 2011 season in late February after recuperating from shoulder surgery during the winter of 2010. Steve qualified and made the third round of the French Open, beating Llodra and Petzschner before losing to Monfils. He also qualified and made it to the QF of Vienna in September, defeating Davydenko along the way, and defeated Tursunov in R1 of the US Open. Steve finished 9-6 in ATP play, and was even more successful in challengers, winning two titles, making two semifinals and six semifinals. In Davis Cup, Steve defeated Melzer in four sets for Belgium in the WG playoff before the team lost and was relegated into Group 1. All in all he raised his ranking from #129 when he started 2011 to finish #88.
In 2012, Steve has a 9-6 record, making the finals of the Dallas challenger and QF of San Jose. He's continuing to progress up the rankings and is provisionally #68 in the world.
Hopefully Steve can remain healthy and continue to maintain good form and consistent play, without injury. His next tournament will be Davis Cup vs Great Britain in Glasgow, the winner will advance to the World Group playoffs in September. It will be a tough road tie to win but the Belgians are the favorite to advance. GL to Steve in his singles matches and to the entire team!
