Re: Is Nadal "Playing out the string" ?

Like I said, at the 2010 USO Nadal served at about 118 mph (average first serve speed) At the time this was well above anything he had done before.

R1 - 117 mph
R2 - 121 mph
R3 - 120 mph
R4 -...

Re: Is Nadal "Playing out the string" ?

The final was after 2 days rest because the Sunday was rained out. This upset Nadal's "preparation".
Remember Nadal complaining about having to wait an extra day to play ?

Nadal had more than one...

Re: The bottom line is...

There sure do seem to be a lot of super-athletes out there in many different sports today.

I guess that the human race has just evolved IN THE LAST 15 YEARS or so. :wink2:

Is Nadal "Playing out the string" ?

Nadal's legacy was on the line at the 2016 AO.
If he wins, he gets the "double career slam", and would only be 2 slams short of Federer.
If he loses, he will be a 30 year old grinder with his best...

Re: Does Anyone Agree with Nadal's Assertion that Tennis is Becoming Crazy?

The only thing that has changed is Nadal.

Compare two hardcourt Grand Slam statistics.

USO 2010 Average first serve speed = 120 mph.
Forehands hit with depth.

AusOpen 2016 Average first...

Re: Toni Nadal: We'll come back to the top in months. Rafa will be able to win Slams.

I really thought that Toni would have Rafa properly prepared for Aus 2016. This was his best chance to get the "double career slam" and get tantalisingly close to Federer's slam total.

Re: Poll: Why is the peak age for a male tennis player so low compared to other sport

He just works harder than everybody else.
He is a SPARTAN !
He changed his grip.
He went gluten-free.
Innocent until proven guilty.
Better nutrition.
The whole rest of...

Re: If Nadal comes out playing better in 2016 than in 2013...

Change his grip.
Work harder.
Gluten-free diet.
New racket.
Better nutrition.
Being injury-free.
Changes to his social life.
The whole rest of the field has dropped.

Re: Rafael Nadal in 'great shape' ahead of 2016 season

Another MIRACULOUS COMEBACK for the SPARTAN in 2016, like he had in 2010, and 2013 ?

Of course, conventional wisdom would say a defensively-minded player approaching 30 would be washed up.

Re: F. Fognini:"I can assure you that nobody in the top 100 is doping"

Of course it is ridiculous for an athlete to say that his sport is clean in an era of widespread use of PEDs in other sports. Especially when tennis has had a DRAMATIC increase in strength and...

Re: Who has better physical abilities at the peak: Nadal or Djokovic?

Although Djokovic's newfound stamina has helped him immensely since 2011, Nadal has always needed a significant physical edge over his opponent, in order to win.

We have seen over the last 1 1/2...

Re: Is Nadal trashing his legacy now, playing against Djokovic ??

I think Nadal hurts his legacy more if he now magically starts to beat Djokovic again.

Re: What's Nadal biggest problem these days?

People keep writing Nadal off, and he keeps coming back from the dead.

I predict that in 2016, Nadal will be running faster, hitting the ball harder, and he will have more stamina, than we have...

Re: I see Nadal winning Wimbledon or the U.S Open.

Well, Nadal didn't win either.

Still, a win at the 2016 AO will give Nadal a "double career slam" (at least 2 of each GS).

It would be AMAZING that at 29, he could COMEBACK FROM THE DEAD for...

Re: Average age of top 10 players end 2015 - 30.1 years, was 25.6 end of 2000.

Like the "aging of champions" that occurred in baseballs' "steroids era", tennis has an "aging of champions" in tennis's steroids era (last 10 years).

Re: This was truly a dreadful Slam as far quality of tennis

All of the slams, since the implementation of the "Biological Passport" last summer have been poor. The stamina of the players seems to have disappeared.

I have no idea why.

Re: How many slams for Nole, if he never ate gluten ?

If you believe Nole, and the Gluten-free diet had a dramatic affect on his performance, it is perfectly reasonable to expect that he would have won more slams, if he had gone on his gluten-free diet...

Re: How many slams for Nole, if he never ate gluten ?

You DO believe Nole that his dramatic improvement in his stamina was due to his gluten-free diet, don't you ?

Nole wouldn't lie to you, would he ?

How many slams for Nole, if he never ate gluten ?

Nole has won 9 SLAMS in 4 1/2 years since giving up gluten.

He now has 10 total.

How many slams would Nole have won, if he had given up gluten 5 years earlier ?

Re: Bold Prediction: Federer will reach at least 2 slam finals in 2015

If Chris Kuerten "leaves", he will just re-up under a different ID.

He is MUCH too partisan to suspend his propaganda campaign against Federer.

Re: WWW: US Open Final: [1] Novak Djokovic vs [2] Roger Federer

- Nole is number 1, Federer is a VERY distant #2.
- Nole has won 8 slams in the last 4 1/2 years, Federer has won 1 in the last 5 1/2 years.
- Nole has won 2 slams this year, Federer 0.
- Nole is...

Re: WWW? US Open 2015 SF: [2] Roger FEDERER vs [5] Stanislas WAWRINKA

Almost as suspicious as the guy who plays poorly/injured every fall where there are no slams, but plays great every spring.
