Re: 2012 Slam winners & other predictions

In the land of the one-eyed, we need the blind to make us feel like kings.

Re: Shanghai 3R: Murray def. Wawrinka 6-4 3-6 6-3

No, but he'd be a cinch for a slam with a sex change. Just a question of how bad he wants it.

Re: Who else thinks that Andy Roddick should just retire?

Andy can't quit. Brooklyn is better looking and has a higher IQ. Andy can't afford to be the older balding guy who hangs around the apartment.

Re: Melzer is a Top 10 player since today!

Top 10 in singles and doubles at the same time.
(Anyone know how long since that's happened, or have a list of those who've done it?)

Re: 2009 Updated ATP Rankings Thread

Actually, one can read the bold phrase as modifying the whole underlined bit, or just the bit in purple; in one case meaning that a late event must be counted, in the other only that a late event...

Re: The Most Annoying Come on!

Nothing on tour today comes close to what Jimmy Connors used to do - he would basically act out a homosexual ****, with lots of fisting and pelvic thrusts. That was gross.

Re: What Murray needs to do now

Beat Nadal in Montreal - that will get him to #2; hang onto it in Cinci; enjoy his #2 USO seeding by watching Fed and Rafa beat each other silly in the semis, like he and Rafa did last year...

Andy & Rafa may play for #2 in Montreal.

Here are the base scores for Montreal (points already earned which will still be good on Aug 17 - subtracting Canada, Cinci & Olympics):

Roger: 10860/10060 (11220/10420-10-150-200).
Rafa: 8485...

Re: But Murray isn't English....

Murray should say, "I've learned to get along with the English; the trick is to understand that they are too stupid to understand a decent joke."

Re: 2009 Updated ATP Rankings Thread

Roger's win over Soderling means he will definitely pass Rafa by Aug 3 - at least 9420 then, to Rafa's 9285 - #1, unless Murray has won Wimbledon.

Re: #2;#3;#4 after Wimbledon?

So Wimbledon may end with Rafa still #1, but sure to be replaced by Andy on July 20 who is sure to be replaced by Roger on Aug 3!

A result of the Olympic calendar shuffle - points from two Masters'...

Re: Live match threads in GM

I tried starting a live match thread in a tournament forum once; got about three nibbles. No fun; gave that up. Then did a search when a big Murray match was on, to see where the action was - turned...

Re: Wimbledon QR2: Taylor Dent def. Luczak 7-6(4) 6-3

Good for him. With his year in a body cast, what a great candidate for the wild card they chose not to use. Hope he makes it anyway.

To whom the top 5 have lost in 2009

A remark on another thread (saying Andy and Nole were losing to a lot of lower-ranked players this year, compared to JMDP - true of Nole, not of Andy) prompted me to check this out.

Losses in 2009...

Re: And what about the fifth star rising?

True for Nole this year, not for Andy. Losses this year (Top 5 losses + other losses); H2H vs Top 5:

Rafa 5 (3+2) 8-3
Roger 6 (5+1) 4-5
Andy 6 (3+3) 5-3
Nole 13 (5+8) 3-5
JMDP 9 (6+3) 2-6

Re: And what about the fifth star rising?

Young: JMDP is 20. In terms of wins, ranking and Slam achievements he's ahead of Murray at the same age - and Murray roughly tracked Fed's achievements, up to Fed's age-21 Slam. Make a chart of...

Re: Live match threads in GM

I believe it's the random walk of network effects - interest follows the action, and laziness causes people to post in GM unless prevented - so it becomes the hot spot, and tourney forums are...

Re: Nole - the new number 2 after Masters Series Hamburg?

#2;#3;#4 after French Open?

Pass possibilities for #2 and #3 at RG (assuming Nadal wins Madrid final, which feels wicked but is legal; will edit if Roger surprises)

May 18 points - RG2008 = June 8 base (points good after June...

Re: Nole - the new number 2 after Masters Series Hamburg?

Are you ignoring the doubling? With 2008 points doubled:

Doha +90
AO +300
IW -90
Miami +110
Estoril -350
MC -610
Rome +110
