Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Went down 4-6 6(4)-7

Strange match. So many service breaks. Thanasi 2nd serve was hammered in the first set. Started second set with strong 2nd serve but weaker on the first. Normalised towards...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

The best option? Would have been better if the draw had put him against Garza I suspect!

But the other qualifiers ended up with Young, Giraldo and Nishikori, so I agree it was the best of the...

Re: Bernard on hard-courts - 2015

Yes, waited to long to 'pull the trigger', when he did hit a faster ball it was only after he was under pressure, so in defence rather than attack. Needs to re-think his plan against Young.

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

And for all that work and the number of wins, the rise in rankings feels painfully slow. It is so tough out there!
Currently on live rank at 138.
This tournament, after 4 straight matches he now...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

I was not trying to say you have to, which is why I mentioned Hewitt as perhaps the best example of all of a player with determination. A tough background can help produce determination, but clearly...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

A great win.
The 'Kokk' belongs in the top 50 for sure. Does he have it to go much further is unclear so far. The 'second set slump', the tweeting about NBA matches all worry me.

It seems these...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

I win is a win but rankings suggest this was not the toughest opponent and the dropped serve early in the second was a little concern. Good time to get a lapse out of the way though and evey match...

Re: Bernard on hard-courts - 2015

Young served for the match at 5-4, and clutch Bernard broke for 5-5. Pity he could not hold on from there. It was close. Needed some clutch serving to hold on to serve for 6-5 instead of...

Re: Memphis R2: Tomic def. Dolgopolov 6-1 7-5

An aspect of Tomic's game that has been a significant problem is the tendency to ease off a little after having achieved a dominant position. I did not watch the match but stats suggest that...

Re: BOLD Prediction: None of Raonic,Nishikori and Dimitrov will ever win a slam

So who do you see as winning the slams 5 years from now?

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

+1

There has been too much 'players now develop later' ... 'there is plenty of time'

Time is precious. Every loss needs to be a learning experience. Yes, not a reason to panic but there is no...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Plays Dennis Kulda, who also came through qualifying, defeating Genepri to make the draw. If he gets through has the winner of Young/Mannarino (Young won).

There are a few very winnable matches...

Re: Ernests Gulbis : "Fognini and myself are a bit crazy but in a positive way"

Gulbis is god, and God (who is Gulbis) made you a Gulbis fan? So was he already your god before you were a fan? Or did he make you a fan before he was your god?

Re: Why does Nadal have so much trouble against random players on GS?

Interesting question.

Famous unexpected losses by Nadal are many. And so often it does seem the other player is demonstrating that they have the ability to play at an unexpectedly high level, just...

Re: Tomic: "I will not drink any more alcohol until I win a Grand Slam title"

Well said.

It seems like for some, alcohol is their religion and this statement by Tomic is blasphemy. To give up drinking he must become boring? Obviously only people under the influence of alcohol...

Have you noticed the Kokkinakis skip step he takes? Maybe he should be called 'skippy'

Re: BOLD: Ilhan will defeat Wawrinka this night

It is Australia and still daytime. When he said 'this night' he meant 'in his dreams'.

Re: BOLD: Ilhan will defeat Wawrinka this night

Given the tennis is a day match I assume this victory will come in Ilhan's dreams later?

Re: Umpire overrule should automatically go to hawkeye

Yes an overrule by the umpire is usually correct, but you will find umpires more reluctant to overrule now hawkeye means their overrule can become 'judged' and itself overruled.

I have even seen...

Re: Australian Open R1: [WC] Kokkinakis def. [11] Gulbis 5-7 6-0 1-6 7-6(2) 8-6

There is definitely both a margin for error and for uncertainty. When does the ball actually become 'in'? When one single fibre from the ball touches a molecule of paint on the line? Or does it...

Re: Bernard on hard-courts - 2015

Tomic has the potential to step up to another level, but to make that step means making changes. A part of that i think is for there to be the maturity of relationship for his father to move to...

Re: Stockholm QF: Bernard Tomic edges Fernando Verdasco 0-6 6-4 7-6 (6)

That first set, it was not just that Tomic did not win a game, he barely won any points either,

Seems Tomic only just avoided a fine for arriving late for the match. The technicality that his body...

Re: Tomic welcomes Kyrgios' friendly rivalry

I actually think Tomic had the ingredients to have a phenomenal career...minus the abilty to actually focus on tennis.

However Tomic stopped developing at 19. You cannot lose the development time he...
