Re: Who is the greatest football player ever ?

Yes but whilst Zidane being missing was important, it doesn't necessarily mean it was the only factor. It was a bizarre tournament and in 1998 France had showed their ability to get through to the...

Re: Who is the greatest football player ever ?

I preferred Ronaldo from his generation. Such physicality, such power. Zidane was mighty at Euro 2000, as was Ronaldo at the 2002 World Cup. Both were surrounded by brilliant teams though, which...

Re: Who is the greatest football player ever ?

Messi is the best I've ever seen, but I'm not old enough to remember many.

Cruyff was the individual personification of possibly the most beautiful style of football the world has seen. So I voted...

Re: Describe yourself politically

Don't worry about it. I was aware there was room for misunderstanding, hence why I was measured rather than aggressive in my reply.

Re: Describe yourself politically

For the context around my remark, go to page 7 of the 2016 election thread.

Re: Describe yourself politically

I think you'll find that you're just a liberal trying to take the moral high ground.

Re: Describe yourself politically

More or less. They attempted to deal with it in-house, and with a committee of his colleagues. Evidently this is the wrong way to handle such incidents, even more so when it was not an isolated case.

Re: Your favorite football team?

I understand that. I was attempting to make it clear that I understood it when I said I didn't care who other people support.

I grew up fortunate enough to have a local team to watch regularly, and...

Re: Jeremy Clarkson fired by the BBC (Top Gear)

Not necessarily. Like I said, I believe he would have been sacked regardless of any previous comments simply for punching the producer. I may or may not be correct but you are thinking too...

Re: Jeremy Clarkson fired by the BBC (Top Gear)

I'm obviously an outsider but I don't think there was much "investigating" to be done. What was up for debate was the exact punishment but it would have been improper treatment to not suspend him in...

Re: Jeremy Clarkson fired by the BBC (Top Gear)

It would have been literally impossible for this split to take place without a huge fuss.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson fired by the BBC (Top Gear)

This sacking is in no way, shape or form a triumph for champions of anti-racism and anti-homophobia. His sacking had literally nothing to do with them. I am convinced that he could have gone on...

Re: Your favorite football team?

I agree. Like I said earlier, I don't care who anyone else supports but I find the idea that there's any team I might support against my local team strange/bordering on unpalatable. I grew up too...

Re: Describe yourself politically

In any case, it shouldn't really matter unless you're placing value judgements on the words "right", "centre" and "left" by themselves. Which people do, obviously, but that's another story.

Re: WWW? Miami R2: [2] Nadal vs Almagro

Almagro is no further down the road to recovery than Nadal so I'd be surprised if he really threatens the upset.

Left-wing and I don't need the political compass to know it.

What a match. Bad luck for South Africa. Win it all New Zealand.

I'd take the Total Football team for that.

Re: El Clasico or IW final?

Two teams that can draw the attention of literally hundreds of millions of people, many of whom like myself have no particular affection for either of the sides involved. It's arguably the biggest...

Re: El Clasico or IW final?

No no that's fine, I understood that. But I have much to say on the subject (another time though) and wouldn't want my thoughts here to be seen as my full understanding of the topic.

Re: El Clasico or IW final?

I didn't mention Barcelona either in fairness. It wasn't an attempt at a definitive ranking.

Re: El Clasico or IW final?

We have different criteria I suppose. For me they are the biggest club in England and are as big as anyone in the world with the exception of Real Madrid. I would put them in the same tier as Bayern,...

Re: El Clasico or IW final?

It's not just about success for me. I have huge contempt for Man United but they're a massive club and have been since the 1950s. Even when they weren't winning they were quite possibly the biggest...
