Re: Alternative player ranking system

I may also announce that the work on a rolling 52 week Elo ranking is progressing really well. I might be able to start posting this ranking experimentally as of next week. I had to make a transition...

Oh, but they watched the real tennis out there live from their cradles with pacifiers in their mouth... No, they didn't watch it on youtube :D!

Re: Djokovic surpassed Borg

Titles only never make the whole story.
When comparing Borg with Djokovic, this is also a good starting point:

Re: All-time Open Era Grand Slam wins

Is there really a need to be so defensive? I'm enthusiastic (in your view), you are not - just the difference of opinions. Except I'm not even enthusiastic, I was merely stating a fact of probability.

Re: Will the weak/thug era bring about a big drop in ATP popularity?

My god, you say you are 24. If you invested only half of your energy writhing useless posts on some internet forums, into tennis instead it could have been you dethroning that player who you...

Re: All-time Open Era Grand Slam wins

The difference to Connors is currently 19 wins. There are possibly 21 matches left for the 3 remaining GS. If he repeats the result from the last season (27-1), he'll surpass Connors this year.

Re: Today's game is much faster and more powerful?

No, man, haven't you heard? They slowed down the courts, so now the serve of 130 mph plays like less then 60 mph.

You think explaining could help once in a while on this forum, but no! I tried to...

Re: Which aspect of Djokovic's game is greater: offence or defence?

For you, I recommend watching the first video in the OP again. Count carefully. Then come and say again, what?!

Re: Which aspect of Djokovic's game is greater: offence or defence?

Also, it highly depends on who is at the other side of the net. With all due respect, but, it is (I'll dare say much) easier to hit a winner through Federer then Murray. Or, comparable, Berdych and...

Re: Which aspect of Djokovic's game is greater: offence or defence?

When we apply what you said to the videos in the OP, the second one actually contains much more of what you define as an attacking mastery.

That's the quirk of Novak's game - when he is in...

Re: All-time Open Era Grand Slam wins

And Djokovic has a real possibility to overtake Lendl and Agassi, and even a chance to reach #2 by the end of the year, if he repeats the 2015 results.

Re: Why does Djokovic celebrate less after winning a major than early days?

Such a shit era this... in which Murray is considered a noname! :D

This thread might hold the clue:

Look at the Top 30 overall list, Djokovic is already #2 ahead of Nadal, despite...

Re: Novak Djokovic said Rafael Nadal is still the best clay court player

Any little piece of credibility you've had so far was just shattered to smithereens by the bold(ed) statement.

Re: Why was jump allowed on serve sometime aprox 50 years ago?

Well, according to the dictionary I can call it a jump.

And obviously tennis players are not doing exactly that, they are also swinging a lot with one arm, a little less with the other, and they...

Re: Why does Djokovic celebrate less after winning a major than early days?

AO2008 was his first Major Title, W2011 was third, but his first Wimbledon. But after your 10th, you get accustomed, you know :D

Re: Why was jump allowed on serve sometime aprox 50 years ago?

Re: Why was jump allowed on serve sometime aprox 50 years ago?

Yes, I can do that, and so can you if you are not disabled or overweight, with just a push from the feet. Enough for couple of inches off the ground. Try it next time and see for yourself what...

Re: Why was jump allowed on serve sometime aprox 50 years ago?

Unfortunately, there are no stats about the serve speeds on the ATP site, but there are stats for the fastest serve on the AO site. Sure enough, out of the Top 5, 4 are taller then 190 cm, and among...

Re: Why was jump allowed on serve sometime aprox 50 years ago?

Their advantage is natural, they are tall. Short players can never compensate for that with jumping, as we can all see.

But, you forget that their proportionally longer arms allow them to also...
