Re: Novak on coaching warning in SF

What Novak usually does is vent his frustration in the direction of his player box, but that's not coaching unless/until someone in the player box responds by giving him instructions or suggestions...

Re: Chris Evert: Federer needs to become a grinder

It's somewhat funny how last year, while he was actually winning tournaments, everyone was constantly commenting as if the next tournament was to be his last. Now, when he's losing more and earlier...

Re: Troicki suspended for 18 months for refusing a blood test.

If he had won easily or lost a grueling tight match, then that would have been an indication that he wasn't feeling all that bad but he lost easily which might suggest the opposite. The...

Re: Saudi Arabian player Faisal Aldossri receives two year ban

Lucky guy, the tennis association of Saudi Arabia would have chopped off his right hand at the spot for the same offense ;) On a more serious note, though, two years seems a bit harsh for that....

Re: Troicki suspended for 18 months for refusing a blood test.

So, you would object to a suspension of 17 months or conversely a suspension of 19 months on the basis that 18 months is such a clear-cut figure? My impression was that there's nothing in the rule...

Re: Troicki suspended for 18 months for refusing a blood test.

That's what's mostly debated here, i.e. what would be an appropriate sanction for his level of non-compliance. I don't however think that there's anything "clear-cut" about his 18 month suspension as...

Re: Troicki suspended for 18 months for refusing a blood test.

Are you sure? Wasn't this reduction simply because he had stated to the official that he was feeling sick? Whether in criminal proceedings or in sports, the maximum "sentence" is usually only...

Re: Will Djokovic get to 10 slams and more?

What worries me is that he may become second best in all slams apart from the AO, where his dominance seems more assured. He should have won RG this year and arguably the USO last year, he also got...

You noticed what exactly? And why the plural?

Re: Troicki suspended for 18 months for refusing a blood test.

Refusing a test without a qualification to the term "refusal" would - the way I see it - be refusing to give both urine and blood samples until known performance-enhancing substances could be...

Re: If Djokovic stays the No. 1 until October, he will overtake Nadal...

It only makes sense, as ranking takes into account year-round performance and Novak is the more versatile of the two in terms of surfaces. RG and Cincinatti are the only two titles of worth still...

Re: Sampras:"Nole can match my 6 year-end world no.1"

I'm inclined to agree with Sampras here, and I don't think it's him ingratiating himself or trying to "stay relevant" as someone put it. Novak's got the AO virtually in the bag for the next few years...

Re: DC QF: Injured Djokovic defeated Quarey 7-5, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 SRB:USA 3-1

Not sure what his performance at a court in Boise, Idaho, has to do with him regressing. He won both matches against two opponents that beat him last year, and he did so losing only one set in a...

Re: 2013 Davis Cup Cheering Thread! QF vs USA! Day 2 Result: Serbia leads 2-1!

I don't think he's ever wrong, they must have modeled Hawk-Eye after him :)

BTW, what a turn-around!

Re: 2013 Davis Cup Cheering Thread! QF vs USA! Day 2 Result: Serbia leads 2-1!

His feet formed an almost perfect right angle when he landed, as he was thrusting backwards with the upper part of his body, which caught him off balance when he landed with his feet. It looked...

Re: Miami R4: T.Haas def. N.Djoković 6-2 6-4 !!! :D

It sure seemed that way to me at least, or maybe someone simply forgot to turn off an industrial fan nearby? Either way, it was undoubtedly a factor in the outcome of this match and thus merits a...

Re: Miami R4: T.Haas def. N.Djoković 6-2 6-4 !!! :D

One result does not make an era, though, or even a statement about an era. Haas has yet to win a GS title or even reach a GS final in this "weak era". That would be a better indicator of his...

Re: Miami R4: T.Haas def. N.Djoković 6-2 6-4 !!! :D

BTW, people seem to forget that Novak is now around the age when Federer became an old man, past his prime. You can't expect a past-prime Novak to deal with young challengers like Haas who also beat...

Re: Miami R4: T.Haas def. N.Djoković 6-2 6-4 !!! :D

When Novak loses confidence in his shots on a windy court, the result can turn into an ugly mess and that's more or less the story of this match. Haas to his credit did everything he could to...

Re: Has Djokovic surpassed Stefan Edberg and/or Boris Becker?

What Novak lacks in big serves and volleying skills, he more than compensates with great returns and passing shots. Big servers are usually bad returners, and Novak's serve is usually good enough...

Re: Has Djokovic surpassed Stefan Edberg and/or Boris Becker?

I wouldn't call the differences minimal. If they were minimal, then the GS wins of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic would be much more evenly spread across all four events than they are.

Re: Will the Roland Garros Organisers Give Nadal a Top 4 Seeding at Roland Garros?

They should seed him #2, that's what he was seeded last year. Wouldn't make sense to improve his seeding from last year, but it also wouldn't make sense to risk ruining the tournament by having Nadal...

Re: Djokovic: "The same Slams as Edberg and Becker? I got shivers..."

Ferrer was #4 a few weeks in 2008 prior to his current #4 ranking, but that 2008 ranking took into account Djokovic's and Murray's performances in 2007, when they were completely new to the top...

Re: Djokovic: "The same Slams as Edberg and Becker? I got shivers..."

He's momentarily #4 only due to an anomaly, namely Nadal's longer-than-expected absence. Prior to that, he was #4 only a few weeks back in 2008 when the current top 4 was only beginning to...

Re: Do you consider Novak Djokovic as a legend in the game?

Novak's got:

a solid list of career achievements (subject to continuous improvement, with at least a few more slams down the line)
a signature playing style (he's redefined the meaning of stretching...
