Re: The mystery of Ivan Ljubicic

This from Andy Murray on why he felt so good about being re-united with Lendl.

I know this isn't a Murray-Lendl thread, but this shows me why the Ljubicic hire is puzzling. He doesn't have any...

Re: Juanqui Ferrero v David Ferrer: Who has had the better career?

I think that the era was like when you were at your peak is relevant. Everyone quoting that Ferrero won a Slam in his favour, but look at a guy like Murray with only 2 slams. Yet if he had his prime...

Re: Juanqui Ferrero v David Ferrer: Who has had the better career?

JCF's game may be more aesthetically pleasing, but that doesn't necessarily translate to effectiveness. Based on what you're saying, it's not even close, yet Ferrer won 7 out of 9 match-ups against...

Re: Juanqui Ferrero v David Ferrer: Who has had the better career?

I think Ferrer's sustained excellence has been underrated by those in this thread.

He has been a year-end Top Ten player in the world in 7 years (and counting): 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014...

B. Becker: I'm a better coach than player

Interesting comments from Becker. How much of Novak's success should really be attributed to him? I must admit I always had the impression he was more of a "figurehead" than a real coach.

Stuttgart R1: "Slammin" Sam Groth def. Marchenko 7-5 6-4

Been a tough year for Groth with injuries and confidence, so it's nice to see him get a W. Hopefully the grass court season is kinder to him.

Re: Your RG 2016 Rating

Wasn't a great one. Poor weather as others have mentioned and the withdrawals of Federer and Nadal.

None of the potential 'big' matches were really that close either:

Gasquet-Kyrgios,...

What type of player gets tournament appearance fees?

I was reading an article that mentioned Alexander Zverev would not be playing at Stuttgart as his financial demands were too much for the tournament. Found this interesting - whilst he is a noted...

Cecchinato: I like Kyrgios' 'arrogance'

Seemed to be good sportsmanship between these two the whole match.

Despite the Wawrinka controversy of last year, is it now fair to say Kyrgios is well-liked in the locker room?

Murray a complex character: Mauresmo

Some semi-insightful comments from Mauresmo on the reasons for the coaching split. Sounds like more than just the fact she wasn't able to commit the time since becoming a mother.

Murray: I've felt flat since the Davis Cup

I know most of the talk has been it has been since the birth of his child that Murray has not been at his best. But found this comment interesting that he's felt this way since the end of last year....

Who was that good looking woman in Federer's box yesterday?

She was sitting in between the two kids, there were quite a few shots of the box as the kids were reading books. Is she the nanny? Quite easy on the eye.

Re: Was the hiring of Ljubicic the beginning of the end for Federer?

That pretty much sums it up. He reminds me of an "old dad", as confirmed by that awkward dancing. That's why I said he would be a good coach for a volatile youngster, so he could impart some...

Re: Was the hiring of Ljubicic the beginning of the end for Federer?

Of course not. That is just Federer showing his age. However, how can you strive to "stay young" in the face of advancing age? By being inspired - and Ljubicic is not an inspirational character or...

Was the hiring of Ljubicic the beginning of the end for Federer?

I don't think this was the right hire for who Federer is and where he is at in his career. At an advanced age of 34, he would be better off having an inspirational guy like Edberg on a consultancy or...

Good shots, trick shots and crowd support why I play tennis: Monfils

Found this interesting quote by Monfils, after his win over Rosol in Vienna:

I'm interested to know if his opinion is consistent throughout the tour. I.e. that he plays to put on a show...

Djokovic: Trick shots disrespectful (another dig at SABR?)

Is Djokovic differentiating himself from Federer and SABR here?

Quite similar in that there was some crazy shot that impressed during a practice session, but unlike Federer, he won't use it in...

Re: Who is the better player, David Ferrer or Gaston Gaudio?

Ferrer by far. Gaudio was a mug who fluked a Grand Slam during an extremely weak era. Absolute mental midget. I recall him getting double bagelled by Federer at the World Tour Finals just to confirm...

Davis Cup could vault me into the Top 20: Tomic

Had almost forgotten that there are rankings points at stake in Davis Cup. I thought it was so secondary that no one really gave a thought about it, but it seems like it is one of Bernie's...

Re: We've heard about SABR, but what are the strategic keys on the Djokovic side?

I guess Djokovic doesn't really seem to change his game much for the opponent or situation. Understandable too, given how much success he has had with his game. But his record in Slam finals doesn't...

We've heard about SABR, but what are the strategic keys on the Djokovic side?

Any thoughts as to what strategies Djokovic may employ to turn around the result from Cincinnati? Of course, we wouldn't expect wholesale changes but I'm thinking of little nuances like the SABR for...
