Re: What happened to John McEnroe post 1984?

It was mistly motivation issues, which also prompted him to take an extended break from which he never truly recovered. McEnrie was never a hard worker, he needed inspiration.

Re: Federer answers Boris Becker: "It’s not disrespectful. I'll use it in the finals"

Except that they probably won't be able to do it. It really is a crazy hard shot to pull off from the serve of a world class player. You need exceptional reflexes and hands.

Re: Federer has a better chance today than he did at Wimbledon

Djokovic is amazingly good at what he does, but calling him the most complete player is idiotic. He's not even a versatile player. He is just extremely good at controlled aggression off both wings...

Re: Federer is holding serve better than ever

Here are my thoughts on the numbers, which doesn't surprise me at all.

First up, the Federer serve is more or less like it always has been. He has always had a strong versatile serve and been good...

Re: WWW: US Open Final: [1] Novak Djokovic vs [2] Roger Federer

If this was best-of-three, I would actually favor Federer at this point in time. But it's not, so Djokovic in 4 or 5.

Re: Official:Federer Level of Play Thread. Is Federer playing the best tennis of his l

Federer is not playing his best tennis ever.

1. He is arguably more versatile than ever.

2. His peak level is still insane.

3. He seems more focused, whereas previously, even in his...

Re: Sampras has nothing on Federer

The year-end #1 stat really is fairly meaningless. It would only be meaningful if tennis had a race-ranking system, which they tried briefly for a few years and then abandoned again. Tennis employs a...

Re: Fabio Fognini's insane crucial return game in an endless loop.

All of them hit within the same square meter or so. Accuracy!

Re: Why don't some servebots just hit the 1st serve all the time?

This is how my brother plays.

I wouldn't recommend it.

Re: Federer's new service box return strategy?

Calling this cheating or gamesmanship is idiotic. This is an insanely hard shot to pull off at the pro level. Even if it is second serves, these are second serves from the worlds best tennis players....

Re: My final conclusion of Prime Federer vs Prime djokovic debate after watching 48

This is all spot on!

I think Federer is easily the most complete player I have ever seen. There's nothing he can't do on a tennis court. Federer is far better at the net than Novak, and his...

Re: Should Rafael Nadal retire now to protect his legacy?

I still wouldn't write him off. I saw moments of past greatness from him yesterday. When coming back from 0-4 to 4-4 in the first set he looked very strong. Djokovic soon got the match under control...

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 15

So after FIVE breaks of serve in the first set, both are now holding with ease. Might be a sign that the 1st set took its toll and then are now taking it a bit easy in their return games until the...

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 15

Easy. Rafa is more fit, but he is also doing a LOT more running than Djokovic, which means that overall I would favour Djokovic slightly in a marathon match. Except, this is RG, in which case I...

Re: Rank the QFists from the one you want to win the most to the least

1. Federer (my alltime fave player)
2. Ferrer (would be a really cool crowning achievement for this hard worker of the sport)
3. Nishikori (the game needs a new generation to rise to the occasion)...

Re: RG R4: [2] Federer def. [13] Monfils 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-1

Serious clowning by Monfils in that 4th set.

Actually, that forehand is quite Courier-esque.

Re: Most difficult shot in tennis?

For the life of me I still can't play a proper backhand smash. If I do pull one off, it is more luck than anything else. Jumping backhand is not difficult (I play 2-handed) and a drive...

Re: WWW Roland Garros R4: [13] Monfils vs [2] Federer

The Cuevas match really wasn't that long. A bit over 3 hours or so. Not a marathon by any stretch. Monfils should be fine for the Federer match and will probably win it in 4.

Re: RG R3: Gael "Peter Pan" Monfils def. Pablo Cuevas 4-6, 7-6(1), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3

Damn Cuevas, choking the match away. Federer is gonna be pissed.

Re: If Nadal wins FO 2015, has there been a more impressive GS victory?

I really wouldn't be a big deal. Nadal is still second favourite to win RG. Outside of the most delusional Rafa-haters, noone would be particularly surprised if he won it. Bet against him at your own...

Re: Can Federer beat current Nadal on clay?

No way. Nadal goes into robot mode whenever he sees Federer on the other side of the court. The game plan is ridiculously simple but just works. Huge loopy topspin shots to the Federer backhand until...

Re: Will Federer & Nadal ever meet again?

Of course.

I'm sure they will play a ton a "legends" matches for huge bucks after they both retire.

Re: Fed/Nadal at Rome 2006

I don't think anyone is claiming that Federer is better than Djokovic on clay these days, but he certainly was for a very long time. Without Nadal, Federer would have been the big favourite to win RG...

Re: Fed/Nadal at Rome 2006

I still feel like that match was a bit of a turning point. Sure, Federer was struggling with Nadal from the very beginning of their "rivalry" in 2004, but after that Rome match it was like Nadal...
