Re: There is no finish line...

Thanks Litotes, very interesting thread. Djokovic with 26 is not far behind!

Re: There is no finish line...

Yesterday Federer clinched sole ownership of the record for GS "winning or losing only to the eventual champ." Federer = 17 wins + 14 lost to eventual champ + Sunday's final = 32. Lendl is now at #2...

Re: Nadal: "I did not watch [The RG final]; I was practicing"

Nadal talks like a desperate man, if he really didn't watch the final as he said he didn't, then even more desperate.

Tio's Dilemma

Will the most famous Tio of tennis say "uncle" and root for Djo and Fed in the semis of Indian Wells?

Consider, if Novak and Fed reach the final, their 3,000+ point lead over Nadal will lengthen,...

Re: Roger Federer to play Istanbul Cup, confirmed

I think it's really smart, the whole schedule that is. Puts tons of pressure on Nadal to cling to the top 4 up to the French Open. One or two missteps and it's possible that some of Murray / Nishi...

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Roger withdraws from Miami Open

Brilliant move IMHO. Opens up the draw a little bit for Murray and the 2nd tier players who are all within shooting distance of Nadal in ranking points. Puts more pressure on Nadal to go all out to...

Re: Do you consider Djokovic now better than Lendl, Connors and Agassi?

Agassi for sure but certainly not the other two

Re: The 80s is considered the strongest era of all time, and it also has the least am

I can't understand this "strong era weak era" stuff. If 3 guys dominate the top 20 then is the era strong (cause of the top 3) or weak (cause those 4-20 can't compete?) If 10 guys end a year in...

Re: There is no finish line...

Federer matched an interesting record yesterday. He tied Lendl in achieving all-time most "won or lost to eventual champ" in grand slams: Federer = 17 + 14 = 31. Lendl = 8 + 23 = 31. Still needs one...

Re: Is "chesstennis " the key to win SLAMS ?

Oranges, maybe you are right, I was talking about match strategy not point strategy (or tactics), which may be what OP meant when he said "chess tennis." I don't know enough about point strategy (or...

Re: Is "chesstennis " the key to win SLAMS ?

Interesting discussion. Personally I do think the original poster has a point (that is usually rejected by fans of X or Y). Nadal began with strategic moves that caused him to beat Fed. Play left...

Re: Djokovic unlimited domination over Nadal since 2011, it's 12-6!

I read 4 pages of comment but did not see this thought yet

What impressed me about the Rome win was how STRATEGIC it was. IMHO Nadal schooled Fed so many times by his STRATEGY. Simple, hit high...

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

DC could put Federer ahead of Stanimal? (If Fed reaches Miami final and wins 2 matches at DC?)

Re: There is no finish line...

Fed still lags Lendl in the number of Grand Slams "won or lost to eventual winner." Lendl booked 31, but Fed only has 29. Pls correct me if my numbers are not on, folks. Anyway I suspect that win...

Re: Federer's ranking discussion

OK so Roger drops to #3 but assuming Nadal reaches #4 by end of Rome then the two will not meet until the (potential) final at Rolland Garros.

Nadal sill has some work to do, and Ferrer needs to...

Re: Fed stats - with most weeks in top-2, 3, 5 and 10

Looks like Fed has clinched 418 weeks in the top 2, thanks to Murray. Question for Litotes and Duong - how sure are we about Lendl having achieved 420 weeks? Or was it 409 weeks?

Re: There is no finish line...

Wow Federer has reached most ever weeks in top 2. Unbelievable! Here are a few more as-yet-unachieved records to cheer for:

1. Calendar years at #1 = 5 versus Sampras at 6

2. Won or lost to...

Re: If Djokovic stays the No. 1 until October, he will overtake Nadal...

Looks like a reasonable bet that he will make it happen. Fed looks to coast and grab maybe a slam while not caring about #1 ranking... Nadal will take some time to climb back... Murray??? The...
