Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Nothing wrong with a little hopeful optimism, I think. Sometimes players just break out - think Janowicz (not that what's followed has been exactly all that inspiring) making the final at Paris 2012.

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Beside the point, but sadly, it wasn't a back court - I think the main court only drew about 10 people. I didn't see much of the match, but they announced his name in an incredibly loud and...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

I basically agree, Kate, it's just frustrating to keep waiting for him to string together a few ATP tour wins. :( I'm also wondering if the problem is more with sustaining intensity than a physical...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

What a bad loss, couldn't even take it to 3 sets. I said something similar after a bad loss in 2014: these are guys he needs to be beating; he hasn't done a whole lot to convince me that he's...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Rock on Kokk. As for title watch, I think there are a couple too many threats in the draw: Isner, Kei, Tomic, Karlovic, Anderson, Groth - obviously he would not face every one of these guys, but I...

Re: Djokovic's on-court behaviour

I feel like it would just make me more focused, like "here's the chance to finally beat this guy for good." I don't know. Obviously it distracted Murray to some extent but this is a guy who...

Re: Djokovic's on-court behaviour

Genuine question for those who play tennis (not me): Why would a player expend his energy pretending to be tired when he isn't in the hopes of tricking his opponent when he could just put his energy...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Got it. I've been saying the first and last syllables wrong, but I think he may pronounce his own name "incorrectly." At least I wasn't entirely butchering it like Pascal Maria in the R1 match....

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

What is the correct way to say it? I think he should be beating players like Groth at this point too, but I'm hoping the fatigue from the Gulbis match was a big part of the loss.

Re: Kyrgios is the real deal.

Fair enough and thanks for your response. What do you think about Kokkinakis, who's had the same type of accusations although not to the same extent?

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Sad to see him go down to a servebot (yes I know Groth has improved etc.) like that. Did Groth look strong and menacing out there or what? Hope TK can make some inroads at Memphis and Delray Beach.

Re: Kyrgios is the real deal.

How is Kyrgios arrogant? I'm not trolling; I honestly don't get it. I'm indifferent to him but don't understand the contempt. He has an awful haircut, yes, but I don't see how he's particularly...

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

I spotted this guy in Hopman Cup 2013 and instantly knew he had what it took. He has a super endearing way about him even though he doesn't try to - just his enthusiasm and heart-on-his-sleeve...

Re: Here comes Nole again! Beijing cheering thread! Final vs Berdych

I chalk a lot of his amazing level of play up to his incredible support in China. It's like he has an army behind him. I think they helped him to come back against Andy in Shanghai 2012 as well.

Re: Thanasi Kokkinakis

Was hoping he'd have a bit more of a breakthrough. Yeah, Giraldo is decently ranked at 30, but I feel like the first step to success usually comes when guys like Kokk take down someone right around...

Re: Indian Wells R4: Gulbis def RBA 7/6 4/6 6/2

I love Gulbis. But come on, Gulbis's whining and cramping was way more "like a woman" than RBA's loser ass was.

Re: Hurts me to say this, but...

Interesting - did you hear anything else? And hm, not quite sure what you meant by "so is the fear"? Glad to hear it's not necessarily a lack of drive.

Re: Hurts me to say this, but...

Well, I think it's easier for fans to try to explain these losses away: wind, running into the net, death of loved ones, etc. These factors might help to explain individual losses but not a pattern...

Re: Hurts me to say this, but...

I know a lot of fans have the same thought - where is the evidence that he's working to improve his game?

Over '12-'13, he's lost almost all of matches against top rivals, especially the most...

Re: Is Djokovic's Lack of Hunger Catching Up With Him?

Could not agree with you more. Everyone talks about how he should improve his net game and overheads. Even if he will never be great at either, even a small improvement could help him a lot in...

Re: Are the Bryan's ruining doubles Tennis?

Totally agree (well, not so much about the attractiveness of French players, hah). This has been asked multiple times on MTF and no one can provide a satisfactory answer. I think they're just...

Re: 2013 Live Commentary

Wind might well be bad but I've never seen a #1 player less able to cope with windy conditions. It's my #1 pet peeve of being a Djokovic fan.

Re: 2013 Live Commentary

I feel like he's barely trying anything other than pushing the ball back in play to the center of the court and he can't even do that.

And just as I say that, a break.

Re: Madrid R2: Dimitrov def. Djokovic 7-6 (6) 6-7 (8) 6-3

Absolutely. It's a shame that today's players all have to act as blandly "classy" as possible at all times in order to be considered marketable. I don't even think Novak ever would have been a real...
