Re: Federer : "I was surprised Novak had so much to say about my coaching choice"

Yes - I think this is the source of Djokovic's comment - he and Ljubo shared Piatti as a coach for a while (but long ago). To me it does not seem significant but Nole may see it differently.

Re: AO QF: (3)Roger Federer def. (6)Tomas Berdych 7-6(4) 6-2 6-4

I thought Fed played this match a bit differently -- hit more topspin backhands, ran around his backhand less. It seemed as if he wanted to dictate play with his backhand at times, instead of using...

Re: AO R3: J. Isner [10] def. F. Lopez [18] 6-7(8) 7-6(5) 6-2 6-4

Surprised Feli didn't make this closer -- he played well the first set and completely fooled Isner several times with slices. But credit to Isner for hanging in there and hitting his groundstrokes...

Re: 2016 Live Commentary Thread vol. 2

Isner - Lopez is an interesting matchup for me. They each have a limited number of weapons, but do them very well. Lopez moves so much better than Johnny so that could be key.

Re: If Wawrinka wins another slam would he be seen as a better player than Andy Murra

Wawrinka already the better player (at his best). But Murray has the better career. One more slam for Stan would draw them roughly equal, considering the quality of the wins.

Re: Is Frank Dancevic a poor man's Federer?

Poor Man's Kafelnikov >>> Poor Man's Federer.

Re: Federer and Edberg part ways, step in Ljubicic.

How many successful coaches were great players? I think very few. Lendl for sure, Tony Roche. It's not clear to me what Becker does given that Djoko has a team of coaches, but let's put Becker in...

Re: Is Nishikori this generation's Ferrer?

Kei has a bigger upside potential for sure - the US Open final is evidence of that, although he was somewhat fortunate to beat Djockovic. I do agree with those who have said the careers of Kei and...

Re: Who has bigger mental edge against Federer at the moment: Nadal or Djokovic?

Agree with those saying Nadal (although they haven't played much recently). Fed has something of a block vs. Nole in finals, but he can keep it close and occasinally win BO3 matches, so it's not...

Re: Who will retire first?

-- Fed first - 2017
-- Then Nadal, say 2018 (but of course it's possible injury could force him to retire much sooner)
-- Djokivic is not going to retire any time soon! He may play until 40...

Re: What was people's problem with Sampras?

Surprised by the Sampras-bashing. Maybe some didn't like his personality, but you have to respect the tennis, no?

And he had plenty of fans -- most of the crowd at the 2002 USO wanted him to beat...

Re: WTF RR Match 2: Wawrinka def. Ferrer, 7-5 6-2

Stan is an artist. Sometimes he paints a thing of beauty, sometimes not. Often in the same match.

Re: Live Commentary Thread 2015 vol. 30

I'm glad I am at work and can't watch this. Sounds like OBE is just not into it today.

Re: Basel Final: (1)Roger Federer def. (3) Rafael Nadal 6-3 5-7 6-3

Spot-on analysis. Fed played really well at the end of the first set and beginning of the second - he was dominant. But then he lost his focus and suddenly played with far less energy and...

Re: Basel R2 - [1] Federer def. Kohlschreiber 6-4 4-6 6-4

I thought Kholi played well, and Baselerer looked . . . kinda nervy at times, presing too hard. But he turned it on when he needed.

That may not be enough in the Final (if he gets there), Fed...
