Re: Mats Wilander says Federer is the favorite

I thought tennis experts were infallible, how come Mats never got a tennis prediction right in his life?

Re: Is this the absolute peak Federer?

I wouldn't say Simon is a retriever, he's an excellent counter-puncher. He feeds of the opponent's pace which is what creates trouble for Fed, he can't smack that FH because the ball will come back...

Re: Is this the absolute peak Federer?

I'm not, I have my biases as everyone else. There are some guys on TT that fit the bill (some former pro section regulars like Krosero) but I don't.

Fed put up a what is possibly a career serving...

Re: Is this the absolute peak Federer?

It's not as simple as "x" and "y" aspects of the game improved but "z" declined. Fed was never Sampras, his success was due to his FH and movement not his serve, BH or netplay (well aside from 2003...

Re: Is this the absolute peak Federer?

Right and you have no ulterior motives yourself and you're just innocently overpraising Fed's level right before a slam final in which his opponent is favoured to win. Be honest, would you do the...

Re: Is this the absolute peak Federer?

Probably the best serve performance I've seen from him, volleyed really well and raised his game in important moments to get that one crucial break Sampras like.

That said, his movement, FH and ROS...

Re: Are Djokotards the new Nadaltards?

Forgive me master, I'll try to be a better padawan in the future. Much to learn I still have.

Re: Why is Djokovic playing safe (chicken) tennis ?

There's no great mystery, it's just confidence based, when Novak is low on confidence he starts playing too defensive. Novak was in full flight during CC season, played aggressive tennis until that...

Re: Is Federer injured ?

On the whole, Fed's FH isn't nearly as good as it used to be obviously but those two soft FHs were tactical, Simon absolutely loves to feed off pace and Fed didn't give him any to work with during a...

Re: Who has a better return of serve on grass - Murray or Djokovic?

ROS is far more important on grass (even modern grass) than clay so not the best analogy. I think people underestimate the importance of punishing mediocre to average serves which is what Novak...

Re: Wimbledon R4 Djokovic def. Anderson 6-7 6-7 6-1 6-4 7-5

3 that I can remember, against Guillermo Garcia Lopez in 2005 Wimbledon, against Fed in 2011 USO SF and this one.

Re: Wimbledon R4 Djokovic def. Anderson 6-7 6-7 6-1 6-4 7-5

Winning ugly but winning, Novak really needs to up his level from now on. Anderson played great (redlined with his serve and groundies) but Novak was very lacklustre (didn't hit and return with...

Re: Why is Djokovic always screwed up by unfair scheduling and umpiring on slams?

Personally, I'm not saying there is a conspiracy (and to what degree) but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the notion that more popular players (at certain venues or on the whole) are getting some...

Re: Berdych's presser after Simon match

You felt sorry for the incompetent, lazy idiot that is making a living off a sport he knows nothing about? Mahut's reaction was completely justified.

Re: Who has a better return of serve on grass - Murray or Djokovic?

Well it's just one match-up and Anderson also plays well from the baseline, he isn't as reliant on his serve or volleys (so an overall different player to Ivo). Regardless, even on grass I'd take...

Re: Djokovic still favourite to win Wimbledon

Novak still has a good chance here, there's no 5th set tiebreak so I expect him to beat Anderson unless he fucks up and starts slowly. Cilic could be a big hurdle (he led 2-1 last year IIRC) but...

Re: Who has a better return of serve on grass - Murray or Djokovic?

Murray is better at returning big ones, Novak is better at punishing weaker ones. This has been the case for their whole careers mostly, regardless of the surface.

Re: Murray's awful serve means he has no chance this Wimbledon

I didn't see Murray serve as big as he used to since he had a back surgery to be honest (people forget how he used to drop flat bombs on his 1st serve). Still one of the main favourites though...

Re: WWW Wimbledon QF: [4] Stanislas "Stanimal" Wawrinka vs [21] Richard "Dicky" Gasqu

Underestimate Ritchie on grass at your own peril, should be a great match.

Re: WWW Wimbledon QF: [12]Gilles Simon vs [2]Roger Federer

Tricky match-up for Fed, definitely needs to serve well and mix it up from the baseline (don't feed too much pace to Simon). Good preparation for Murray though, I think he'll get through in 4.

Re: WWW: Wimbledon R4: Djokovic-Anderson. Play susp. at 6:7 6:7 6:1 6:4

Why didn't they continue the match on CC? Didn't that happen with Simon-Monfils few days ago?

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 19

Novak is one of the best ballstrikers on tour, that's talent. Athleticism alone doesn't win you a slam (let alone 8).
