Re: Congrats to Wawrinka for winning DC!

The most accomplished player of 2014 despite basically being walkabout for more than half of it, it's quite an achievement. This weekend also put paid to that nonsense about him being the one...

Re: Is AO scheduling really fair?

Safin in 04, Baghdatis in 06, Tsonga in 08, Federer in 09, Murray in 2010 and Nadal in 2012 all played the first SF and lost, so that's what, 7 out of the last 13 years that the first finalist has...

Re: Where are the serbian clowns calling the USO '12 a fluke???

As a wise Serbian poster first observed on here exactly a year ago, Federer and Murray now have more Slams than Nadal and Djokovic.

Re: BBC commentators and presenters. Who gets on your wick and why?

It never ceases to amaze me how Andrew Castle talks about every match as though the viewing public is watching tennis for the first time, and needs handy reminders on what Slams are, how tiebreaks...

Re: Stupid Journalism at Press Conferences. RG/ITWA bans press transcripts

Classic. I'm willing to bet that question came from one of Britain's many two-week tennis journalists, much as I'd hope otherwise.

Del Potro's 2009 US Open would have been even more impressive if...

Re: Schalken: "If I would play the same as 10 years ago, I could make QF"

You have to get someone of that quality sooner or later, in fact he had a break twice early in the fifth set against Hewitt but couldn't hold onto it. Come to think of it he had chances to win a set...

Re: Schalken: "If I would play the same as 10 years ago, I could make QF"

He got some kind draws at Wimbledon in those three years, but they were arguably recompense for losing 8-6, 13-11 and 20-18 in the fifth three years running in the third round from 98-00. Notable...

Re: WWW Davis Cup SF: Tomas Berdych vs THE MIGHTY WARLOCQ

Interesting to note that when Spain won the DC back in 2004, they squeaked past the Czechs in the first round, in the Czech Republic, coming from 2-1 down with Lopez beating a teenage Berdych and...

Number of major outdoor hard finals reached: 20
Won 11, lost 9

Australian Open/Indian Wells/Miami: won 8, lost 2
Canada/Cincinnati/US Open: won 3, lost 7

Number of major outdoor...

Re: Longest streak without dropping a service game?

Which is precisely what Karlovic did during the course of his incredible 129-game holding streak (to Roddick in the quarters of Queens 09).

Re: Eastbourne-QF: Smart or just stupid?

The weather here has been fine for almost 3 hours, and there has to be another couple of hours' light left tonight. Bizarre. Hopefully the Seppmeister is prepared to fight through the delays and...

Re: Queens F: Cilic def. Nalbandian 6-7(3) 4-3 (Disqualified & rips the ATP as well)

Don't forget the Holocaust, that was much worse than all of Dave's run-ins with the ATP put together.

Re: Queens F: Cilic def. Nalbandian 6-7(3) 4-3 (Disqualified & rips the ATP as well)

The decision to default was made by an Irishman and an American, but never mind.

Extraordinary stuff, I didn't even see it as I left just before it happened. In a way I'm not surprised that...

Re: 4 One-Handed backhand players in Halle semis.

No idea when this last happened in a regular tournament, but the last major it happened in was also on grass - Wimbledon 1997, where the semis were Sampras v Woodbridge and Pioline v Stich. ...

Re: Robredo and Gulbis must be pissed

Not many people can spend a decade producing the kind of quality you've managed, so all the best for your 10th anniversary this November.

Re: Robredo and Gulbis must be pissed

Is the purpose of this bump to point out the regression of Gulbis since 2007, or to exhume some long-buried posts by myself and others?

Re: Monte Carlo R1: Dodig def. Ljubicic 6-0 6-3 to send Legenda into retirement

I think that was Mathieu at RG, wasn't it?

Two of the most entertaining and personable players on the tour gone within a matter of weeks, it's sad to see the old guard beginning to fall away.

Re: Strange ironies in tennis' history

There's no way Federer would have finished 2003 as year-end no. 1 anyway even if he had got it then by beating Roddick, and it's far too early to say whether the Miami loss will have any bearing on...

DC GBR v BEL: Goodall eventually falls for the charms of Mr Darcis 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4

A decent effort, but an expected result. Without Murray this is essentially the best level we can aspire to in Davis Cup - one match away from the play-offs, so two stages away from the WG.

Re: Longest winning and losing streaks of active players. Must be tour level and 10+

He's inactive, but Tomas Zib managed an 18-match losing streak from New Haven 2005 (l. to Ferrer) to Valencia 2006, where he beat Pavel in the opening round. I seem to recall I made a thread about...
