Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Oh boy. That was anti-climactic. Too bad for Tsonga. Ernests will get more rest but will he get enough practice for his next match? Either Almagro or Goffin will be tough.

Post Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Looks like there's not an empty seat on Court 17. People came to see Ernests play. Should make him feel good.

Smile Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

It's been a while since I got up early for Ernests. Reminds me of the good old fan-girling days, when there wasn't even a stream, just live score.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

I lost the stream at 2-2 and didn't know he served at 4-2. That means he wasted more chances then. :banghead: Hoping for the best in the next one.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

After winning the first set pretty convincingly, he proceeded to start the second set rather loosely. Squandered 2 consecutive unchallenged break points in the 2nd game and 1 in the 4th, with Pouille...

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

I see what you mean. Never saw Pouille play before. He is consistent and gets the ball back most of the time, in spite of Ernie's power. Also young, on the rise, and nothing much to lose. Ernie will...

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Yes, it's great to once again have something to cheer about! If Ernie is getting back his fine form, he should be the better player than Pouille.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Watching him play today, I thought he was playing B-level tennis. By that I mean his game looked ordinary. Sure, the great serve was there but his first-serve percentage was low- something like 50%?...

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

So true. And a stream would be so good after what seem like ages since I last saw him play. I hope he will come out in good form. Praying for a win.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

He is Latvian and used to coach a Detroit college women's team; close to Ernests' age also. Hoping for better results between them.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Indian Wells]

Another R1 loss. It was not fun to watch. Too many errors on both wings. And his serve was just so-so. He has a new coach, tho. Pjotrs Necajevs. And a good-looking mystery lady in his box as well.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Rotterdam]

The FH has been a problem for some time. If Bresnik couldn't help Ernests fix it, perhaps it's time for him to go.

Talking Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Rotterdam]

Thanks for this. Helps us keep things in perspective. One win at a time. Hopefully, they'll keep coming and give our guy a much-needed boost. I wish him luck against Monfils.

He's playing Gasquet in the next round. I'm praying for a win.

Thumbs up Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [the Australian Open]

Great! Thanks for the info. Four tournaments in 4 weeks look like he's plenty motivated. I hope will stay fit.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [the Australian Open]

Oh, no. Too soon to think this way. Ernie looked fit in his R1 match, no sign of anything bothering him. He showed some really good shotmaking, too, like the old Ernie. Only problem was, he also made...

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [the Australian Open]

Ernests went the distance- 5 sets, 11-13 in the final set. I felt he could have won this, but he sprayed too many forehands long and wide. Chardy didn't play well, either, double-faulting often, but...

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Sydney]

A crappy start to 2016, to be sure, but it's only been 1 week into the year and 2-3 matches so far. There are 355 days ahead of him. No telling what can happen, barring injury. He can play in...

Re: Ernests in 2015: Let's Go! [Next up: US Open]

I was there too, and yes it was humid but not terribly so. Neither he nor Bedene even asked for ice packs, which were available. It must be his wrist, or some other injury, although he didn't look...

Re: Ernests in 2015: Let's Go! [Next up: US Open]

Injuries have been plaguing him in the last 5 years. They have defined his tennis career.:sad::sad:

Re: Ernests in 2015: Let's Go! [Next up: Vancouver CH]

I "discovered" Ernests through that match against Blake. Seems many incarnations ago. He still has all the weapons today but he does not play as fearlessly as he did back then. That was pure...

Re: Ernests in 2015: Let's Go! [Next up: Halle]

The forehand looked troublesome. He does not look confident out there. I hope he will get enough practice before Wimbledon.
