Re: If you change the outcome of ONE match involving your favourites...

DC QF 2008. Nalbandian beat Söderling 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 6-4, 9-7, ruined his hip in the process and consequently his career.

I would've preferred a quick loss and a few more good years on the tour...

Re: Davis Cup QF: Delbonis beats Troicki 2-6 2-6 6-4 6-4 6-2. ARG 2-SRB 0

Nope.

Nope. Only players who have been nominated for a tie can play the tie.

And well done Delbonis & Leo Mayer. :D

Re: Del Potro to have surgery again!

He trusted Dr. Richard Berger from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, US of A.

But I'm not sure he will for a third time.

Re: Boris Becker wants British citizenship

He has been living in working in the UK for years. Might as well add a British passport to his German one.

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

You don't need a reason anymore. If you're a top player like Nadal and you don't like the way an umpire does his job then apparently you can just inform the ATP and ITF and have him withdrawn from...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

A serious question - did you actually read any of my posts? Not as in skim and jump to conclusions but actually read?
Because I've written about every point you raise here, and more than once in some...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

No, Joolz said that the way his request is being handled is setting a precedent.

And then she tried to make you respond to the points she built her argument on, the ones you previously...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

If there doesn't need to be an overly harsh sanction that an umpire imposed or a direct impact that his actions had on the course or outcome of the match then basically any top player can have any...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

Okay, I'll repeat myself one last time.
The difference here is that Bernardes simply did his job and enforced the rules.
There were no mistakes, no major sanctions, not even a point penalty, no...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

It's setting a precedent.
And really not a good one. Especially not for the umpires.

After all, Nadal didn't even have reason to feel hard done by.

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

Yeah, the focus has been too much on Nadal and too little on Bernardes and what it must've been like for him.

I think that being allowed to have umpires of your choice withdrawn amounts to the...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

No but in that case no one would've found out about it and we wouldn't be having this discussion. ;)

The umpire 'wish list' has been mentioned before in this thread. Ideally, there should be no...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

The difference is that Nadal told Bernardes in public that he'd have him withdrawn from his matches and that Bernardes was simply enforcing the rules.
What makes Nadal's reaction seem so...

Re: Nadal Asked to avoid Bernardes

Didn't you see the "(Smiling.)" behind that part of the presser or are you just trolling again?

But as heart-warming as your attempts are, this really is bad news for the sport.

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

In my opinion, previously presented as the "simple answer", Nadal doesn't actually have such a huge problem with getting the occasional time warning.
Not enough of a problem to change anything (and I...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

From my standpoint there's absolutely no reason why Nadal would want to change anything, with or without enforcement/incentive.

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

Why is it naive to point out that it's in his power to change the current situation? Why would he need to be forced? Why think him incapable of it?

The simple answer: Nadal doesn't really have such...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

Nobody keeps him from adjusting it now. Though the consequences he has had to face have never gone beyond what - the loss of a first serve? Maybe a point somewhere?
I think that's not very much,...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

I didn't see your previous post. My apologies. :)

But you're very much the exception among the Nadal fans here.

If the rules were more consistently enforced it would be bad for Nadal. That's why...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

Does that make his reaction okay? What I can't seem to understand is why it's so difficult to simply admit that what he did was poor form.
Especially since Bernardes was merely doing his job and...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

He is the only one who has told an umpire that he won't be officiating his matches again.

And the umpire in question hasn't officiated any of his matches, since. That's the worrying part if you're a...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

The point I'm making is that sport cannot exist without rules because the rules are what makes the different performances measurable and comparable.

Of course I don't mean that athletes actually...

Re: Bernardes taken out of Nadal matches at the French

I'm all for questioning the ATP and the ITF and the way they treat players. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the rules.

In any case, umpires who consistently enforce the rules deserve...
