Re: Why Arthur Ashe Stadium is the worst sports venue in America

I've been high up on Ashe, long ago, before the roof, and didn't think it anywhere near as bad as people make out. I have good eyesight, and the sightlines are decent.

Phillippe Chatrier, on the...

Re: Serious question: What's more important? WWYD?

It depends. Will you be able to keep your mind on the girl and her dumplings if you go on the date?

Bcause if you are going to keep checking the score on your phone, and moaning about missing the...

Re: Denis vs USTA WCs

So, they give them to former champions who will be known to casual viewers, not up-and-coming teenagers from other countries.

Wimbledon's wildcard policy has always been a bit different. They tend...

Re: NextGen leaders' slam results to be desired

What birth year do you start NextGen from?

Pouille (94), Edmund (95), Coric (96) and Shapovalov (99) are all live in R3. At least one will reach R4.

Re: Is the bottom half of the draw the worst you've ever seen?

It has the potential to be exciting, if one or more of the remaining younger players (Pouille or younger) steps up.

We've been waiting for ages for a true generational shift, and even with Zverev...

Re: What's the biggest bottlejob/choke you can remember?

Coria-Gaudio just defines the concept for me. And defines the career of the two players, too. I don't think I will ever forget that match.

Re: Should Nadal play Hamburg for nr1?

Being #1 is important if you've not yet been #1 (Murray last autumn), or if you have a chance to break records for total weeks or consecutive weeks at #1. Or if you still do not have a...

He hasn't done his cause much good by losing in R4 again, while Murray (defending champ, #1, home favourite) and 7-time champ Fed progress.

Djokovic has won more times and more recently, too. And...

Re: WWW Wimbledon Championships 2017[03.07 - 16.07] - Draw on 30.06 - 10 AM GMT

Unless rain severely disrupts the schedule, the week two schedule for Wimbledon is always:

2nd Monday: Fourth round
2nd Wednesday: Gentlemen's singles quarterfinals
2nd Friday: Gentlemen's...

Re: Antalya R16 Ramanathan def. Thiem 6-3 6-2

At one point today, I checked the stream for this and Eastbourne back-to-back, during Eastbourne's rain delay.

There were more people sitting in the rain, gazing forlornly at the soaking tarps...

Re: Wimbledon Qualifying Entry List (updated June 25, 2017)

As for tickets - Sharapova withdrew on 10th June, tickets went on sale on 12th June, and were sold out when I checked on 21st June - maybe before.

So her saga may have publicised the fact that...

Re: Longest final set

I'm not sure of the duration of the final set here, but it is long in terms of games, and prefigured the biggie a few days later:

Mahut beat Bogdanovic, Wimbledon QR2, 2010: 6-3 3-6 24-22.

Re: ATP World Tour Finals has new sponsor, will stay in London until 2020

I think London has done the tournament proud, but I do think it'd be good to move on. It seems like too long in the same place, to me.

Re: Generation Useless' first big title.

I wasn't meaning his gamestyle is like Ferrer's. Just I can see him being a consistent top tenner, who can usually be relied to beat lower ranked players, rather than the very top echelon.

Re: Generation Useless' first big title.

Thiem will be the next Berdych / Ferrer.

But he might get luckier than them, as his peak is less likely to coincide with the peak of several all-time-greats.

Re: Cilic and Federer didn't retire once in over 2000 matches

Fed's aversion to retirement or giving walkovers is well-known. I hadn't realised that Cilic did so well in this category.

There's a little clique at the top of the table who need to rethink their...

Re: The current youngest man to have....

Isn't Thiem also the youngest WTF qualifier? He played last year.

He was only ranked 9, but did not enter as an alternate, but due to Rafa withdrawing in advance.

Re: The packed clay schedule of Rafael Nadal - smart or an unnecessary risk?

He runs on confidence and momentum. It's a risk, of course, but a calculated one.

If he goes into Garros having won everything on clay, and thus having shut out Djoko, Murray, Thiem, Wawrinka etc...

Re: Coric is the first teen to win 50 main tour matches since Cilic?

I'd forgotten how successful Roddick was as a teenager.
