Re: Doping in Tennis Thread (No accusations without proof)

In Agassi's autobiography, it is notable that the word "steroids" does not appear even a single time in 400 pages. It is also notable that Agassi expressed a desire in the book to never have to lie...

Re: Doping in Tennis Thread (No accusations without proof)

I'm pretty sure that Federer's recent comments about not having enough blood tests are aimed at somebody (or somebodies) in particular, because Roger isn't one to shoot off his mouth for nothing. And...

At what point do we start including Nadal in the GOAT conversation?

If Nadal wins his 5th straight FO title this June (and the chances are about 90 percent that he will), then follows it with another Wimby title, you have to figure that he is within sight distance...

Re: ATP to downgrade Hamburg and Monte Carlo

come on. Now they will have 3 TMS indoors, 4 on hardcourt, and only 1 on clay? That is unbalanced. You'd have to think that Madrid is planning to switch from indoors to clay if this change really...

Re: Is Tursunov "Dima", or "Mitya"??

Kolya, Mitya, do a lot of the Russian men's names end in "ya"? Kafelnikov was "Genya" right?

now that i think of it, GWH calls Tursunov "Mitya", i should have known that George is always right about...

Re: Has Nadal lost it?

Hewitt was very good in '04 but missing something that he had in '00-'02. And i can tell you the exact match where Hewitt lost it - in the '02 USO semi against Agassi. Lleyton has never been quite...

Has Nadal lost it?

it just seems like Nadal lost his swagger after Feds beat him in the Wimby final, and ever since then he hasn't been quite as mentally tough. I can't put my finger on it but he just doesn't seem to...

Re: ATP to downgrade Hamburg and Monte Carlo

it's too drastic. All they have to do to solve the TMS problem is separate Paris-Madrid and Cincy-Montreal by a week and downgrade either Hamburg or Rome. Removing Monte Carlo from TMS is too...

Re: Is Tursunov "Dima", or "Mitya"??

Is Tursunov "Dima", or "Mitya"??

I see people randomly calling him by both names around here. As i have had it explained to me, "Dima" and "Mitya" are both colloquial forms for the full name "Dmitry", but they are NOT...

Re: Melbourne Weather website?

DONT use weather.com. They under-estimate the Melbourne temps by 10-15 degrees. They said it was only 93 F yesterday, not even hot enough to implement the heat rule.

Re: Seppi and Reynolds going into a fifth set at 3 AM. New record?

nah, the sun doesn't rise until after 6am there. But it has to be a record for the latest at night that any match has ever been played.

Re: No more play on outer courts today?

yes but air temp is still 102 F. I'm sure they won't play before 6pm local time (2am EST, 8am CET).

Re: Nalbandian def Tisarevic 6-7,4-6,7-6, 6-0, 3-1 (ret)

Nalbo was standing there, down match point in the 105 degrees blazing sun, waiting to receive serve and thinking, now i've got this guy right where i want him :p

AO needs to change the heat rule before someone gets killed

it's ridiculous to start these matches at 11am when it's 33 degrees C and obviously going up to 39-40 C during the course of the matches. They need to extend the heat rule to protect the players who...

Re: No more play on outer courts today?

don't go by what the Weather Channel says because they always under-report the temperature in Australia by a few degrees.

The current air temp in Melbourne is 100 F. I doubt they'll go below 95 F...

Re: Nalbo bites the big one against Tipsarevic.

whoops, Tipsy blew three match points while serving for the match at 5-4, then blew a 40-0 lead on Nalbo's serve in the next game. He may be a fatty but he's always a tough one to close out...

Nalbandian def Tipsarevic 6-7,4-6,7-6, 6-0, 3-1 (ret)

The great Aussy Open for the Serbs continues.

Fat Dave is looking a bit low on energy today, like he didn't eat his McDonalds breakfast.

Re: The trials and tribulations of Marat Safin

if Safin didn't smoke so much marijuana and have sex with so many women, he would probably have won more Grand Slams. On the other hand, he might not have become so quotable.

Re: The LEGEND of Michael Russell

bump. I know this board hates Americans, but Russell deserves a little bit of play in advance of tonight's match.

Re: The LEGEND of Michael Russell

there is just something so storybook about him never having won a Grand Slam match in 10 years on tour, except for that one run at RG where he came so close to beating Kuerten, where a single point...

The LEGEND of Michael Russell

for those of you who don't remember, Mike Russell was the unknown, undersized American who won 3 qualifying rounds and then 3 maindraw rounds at the 2001 French Open, then went up 2 sets to love...
