Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

He was a good tennis player. Australia named their tennis arena after their *best* tennis player. Ashe was never the best American tennis player. That it's named after Ashe is a big joke, really....

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Uh, you do know that the list of tennis players with 10x slam semifinals is very short?

People hate Roddick way more than is sensible. Roddick has 30+ titles, which is way more than anyone in this...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

By the fact that most people have entirely forgotten his tennis achievements.

But what made him 'high profile' is that he was a very successful tennis player who won slams. Nowadays it's all...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Del Potro: 357 wins, 19 titles, a slam and highest ranking of world number 4. Just 3 slam semis.

Roddick: 612 wins, 32 titles, a slam, world number one and 10 slam semifinals.

Kafelnikov:...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

We disagree. He was only able to do these things because of what he achieved in his tennis career. If it's been forgotten that he won slams and which slams, then he's failed in his ultimate goal.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

If people have forgotten what he achieved and all they see is that he was the black tennis player, how has he succeeded?

He's failed if that's the case. South Africa could only keep him out of...

Re: Ljubicic on RG '06 F: Everyone in the locker room would love to see Federer beat

Pete has more weeks at number 1. Not clear to me at all that Nadal is better. My list still has

Federer
Pete
Borg
Connors
Lendl

Nadal a bit further down.

Tyson got a little bit further than the 17th best boxer in the world.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Ashe merits inclusion in the hall of fame based on what he did on the court. Same with Tilden. I couldn't give a rats ass what you did off of it. It's a tennis hall of fame. I think it diminishes...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Again, it's a tired old saw. So did Vilas. Nobody argues that Vilas - as a Hispanic man deserved to be in because of the color of his skin.

So why him and not other players? The point is -...

Re: Djokovic has dropped out of the Top 4 for the first time in over 10 years (6/25/2

Finally. Unfortunately he took down Fed's time in the top 4 before he dropped.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

I hate the argument that the only thing that gives him merit is the color of his skin. Hate it. If he's worthy of inclusion then fine, but putting him in because he's black? Ugh.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Not sure if serious.

Roddick - 10 GS SFs, 600+ wins, world number 1.

Chang - 8 SFs, 600+ wins, never got to number 1.

Kafelnikov - 6 SFs.
Stich - 6 SFs.
Bruguera - 4 SFs.
Korda - 2...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Stan has not. That and his 16 titles are the biggest hurdles to getting to the HOF. Stan is at 465. He's been so far behind for so long in his career.

Right now, he's in the good, but not great...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

Ferrer's got a lot of arguments, but, Wilander with 33 has the fewest among the all time greats.

He's just not got the titles. Ferrer's best argument is his 700+ match wins. But even then, he's...

Federer/Ferrer 1819
Nadal/Djokovic 1635
Agassi/Sampras 1632

Amazingly, he's won 3 tournaments, and is on the plus side. 168-153.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

There are three men, all about the same distance with the same number of slam wins that would fall under similar consideration.

Andy Murray,
Arthur Ashe
Guillermo Vilas.

Vilas - 4 slams, 4...

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

I'm not quite sure how you can be an ATG when you never reached number 1 in your career as an active player. It makes no sense to me.

Re: Why Hewitt is not yet part of HOF?

I'm not sure why Ashe would be in and say, Vilas would not. Vilas > Ashe. Ashe didn't even reach number one.

Re: Federer : The Mother Of All Quests : 20 Slams And 100 Titles.

Personally I disagree with him skipping anything until the end of the year. If he needs rest, he can do it next year.
