Re: Is Djokovic greater than Nadal?

"Dominance" was clearly explained in my first post on the issue. Whoever doesn't understand, just go back one page and read.

Fact is: meeting Nadal in the later stages of a slam has typically been...

Re: Is Djokovic greater than Nadal?

Both. But the first is called dominance, the second consistency.

Re: Is Djokovic greater than Nadal?

When Nadal is in tip top condition, he typically wins the slam. Djokovic typically doesn't.

Sure, if reaching semifinals is your criterion for dominance - and not winning - Djokovic is the man....

Re: Is Djokovic greater than Nadal?

They are both Dai-Yokozuna now, and this is a level where comparisons start becoming pointless, as one is comparing unique careers. But if push comes to shove of course Nadal still ranks a tad...

Re: When will Djokovic surpass Nadal in slams?

There is one area where Djokovic will never surpass Nadal: dominance.

Djokovic entered 28 grand slam semifinals and won 10 of them, a conversion rate of 36 percent. Nadal went on to win 14 times...

Re: Is Djokovic greater than Lendl?

There are some parallels - both had to wait a long time after they were the world's best player, Lendl until Borg retired and McEnroe deteriorated, Djokovic until Federer became too old and Nadal...

Re: There is no big four confirmed again

I'm not explaining to someone in 10 years. I am explaining what has happened in the past 5 years, why people came up with the term "big 4", and why the term makes good sense.

Maybe our...

Re: There is no big four confirmed again

One can argue whether there still is a big 4. Probably not, not only b/a of Murray but also Nadal.

One cannot argue that there has never been one. If you were not called Federer, Nadal, Djokovic,...

Re: Petition to Roger

Nothing is weirder than when fans assume players would owe them anything.

Re: Novak Djokovic is now a Dai-Yokozuna (Great Grand Champion)

Djokovic was at 7-7 at the beginning of the year, at the time this step really seemed still quite a bit off.

Re: I'm ashamed to be a Federer fan for the first time

Re: Djokovic will be crossing Federer's 17 GS!!

I've heard that often before - pretty much every time Djokovic wins a title.

So how many titles do you think will Djokovic win? 20? 27? 37? You better say that here first too.

Novak Djokovic is now a Dai-Yokozuna (Great Grand Champion)

.... as he has now 10 grand slam titles (http://yokozunatennis.blogspot.com/). This doesn't happen often, thus I thought I throw this in.

He joins a small elite club ...

Re: Djokovic was one match shy of winning the calendar grand slam

... but was outgunned in that match. Wawrinka won it, Djokovic did not lose it.

Still, great year for the new Dai-Yokozuna (http://yokozunatennis.blogspot.com/).

Re: Damn

Thanks. I like the sumo ranking system, and I realized that both sports are organized similarly, i.e. around a few grand tournaments per year (6 in sumo, 4 in tennis). So I played around with what...

@ zjtennis

This was after Wimbledon. After the USO Gasquet will be ahead as Sekiwake (first time in his career, while he's been Komusubi already a few times). While Kei drops out of the sanyaku...

Re: Nadal Fans: Who are you rooting for in the final?

I don't get why Nadal fans are supposed to support x or y to make Nadal look better. To me this sounds very stupid. Nadal doesn't need this. He will always be remembered for his 14(+) slams, 9 RG...

Re: Nadal Fans: Who are you rooting for in the final?

I'd like to see Federer take another one. He deserves it, given how he plays.

Btw, while I like Nadal (and many other players), I am not the type of "fan" who would wish his competitors bad....

Re: Damn

Good question. Yokozuna is a rank for life. In sumo, a Yokozuna is asked to retire when he doesn't bring the results any more. Of course I can't do this with Nadal, but to have something akin, there...

Damn

I was looking forward to a great tennis evening when my kids are in bed, thought I could watch Federer-Wawrinka, hoping for a nailbiting 5-setter in a duel of beautiful backhands.

What happens?...

Re: Djokovic: Federer is playing the best tennis he has ever played.

This sounds like an attempt at self-elevation. Yes, today's Federer is incredibly good for a man his age. But no, he's no match for the 2007 Federer. Speed, serve, reaction time, return, all was a...
