Re: Federer trashes Davis Cup: ''It's been a big burden and caused many difficulties'

I think that's what he meant, too.

Loosie, you aren't Roger Federer. Ever since he hit the top, it seems that his country has been expecting him to win DC for them, but you can't do it alone, and...

All Dubai qualifiers in same draw half

I've just re-read the Dubai singles draw, and realised that all 4 qualifiers are in the top half. Obviously that's statistically possible, but I'd have thought it might be quite rare in practice?

Re: Wimbledon ballot

Oh, and bring sunscreen. I ended up noticeably red even with the temperature not topping 20 degrees when it was sunny. I think Court No. 2 is possibly the biggest suntrap of all.

Re: Wimbledon ballot

Yep, that's correct - for Centre, No. 1 and No. 2 court, I think - but you pretty much need to be able to stay after 5 pm. The queue can be horrendously long, though. Also, if there's a really...

Re: Federer quietly aiming for RG?

Well, my take was that it was a tacit acknowledgement that he's unlikely to go very far into tournaments on clay, so he's spreading the load a bit and playing more tournaments to try and keep his...

Re: A few beginner questions

Yes, welcome. Just to add:

1) Also, I understand that players need to be able to hear the noise of the ball hitting the strings etc. because it helps give them a lot of information about the...

Re: Rio de Janeiro SF: Fognini def. Nadal 1-6 6-2 7-5

Yeah, well, "disgusting luck" happens, and to all sorts of players. Cincy 2013, anybody? And anyway, was it luck? If Nadal had hit slightly higher, or something, it wouldn't have hit the net cord,...

Re: Fed stats - with most weeks in top-2, 3, 5 and 10

8, yes, but I think it was after the AO last year - the year when he made the SFs as usual. Ironically, this year he gets knocked out in the 3rd round and stays at No. 2.

Re: ~*~*~*~ Australian Open 2015 Thread - Italian Job #2 vs Seppi 3R ~*~*~*~

Hello, duong. Good to have you back - we've missed you.

My guesses (not having seen any of the matches, mind you):
- Wawrinka mentioned the mental exhaustion he was feeling, and I'd guess it hit...

Re: Roger news and articles

Thanks for that, bluesoleil. Very interesting: I'd always thought that Roger was something of a lapsed Catholic, but apparently not.

Re: AO: How *are* the second half playing?

Thanks. I guess we'll see soon whether Novak is in top form or not - I expect another long match, but will have to listen to it on the radio because the BBC don't seem to be bothering to show that...

Coaching, privileged information and ethics

With the bit of fuss that was made about the coaches for the Murray/Berdych SF, with Vallverdu having been Murray's coach and now being Berdych's, it got me musing:

Andy quite rightly pointed out...

Re: Would you watch a Nole vs Murray final?

Final or no final, I try to avoid watching Murray/Djokovic ones wherever possible. Once beaten bored, twice shy. I still have the Wimbledon final recorded somewhere: may get around to watching it...

Re: Why didn't Nadal wanted to acknowledge he was injured?

Or if not, perhaps a convenient journo: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/rafaelnadal/11371345/Rafael-Nadal-was-telling-fibs-at-the-Australian-Open-he-is-clearly-a-man-in-pain.html

Re: Anticlimactic schedule of Men's semifinals at the Australian Open

Me neither

I thought that was the blisters? He had a day's rest: he should have put a sub-par Federer away more quickly rather than allowing it to drag on to 5 sets.

Only other argument I can...

Re: 15 million Facebook fans for Nadal

You could say exactly the same about Federer, for that matter.

He hasn't done either since he started *playing* in the AO, I don't think. And that's not that unusual for him. Not that you care,...

Re: Hewitt Announces 2016 Retirement Plans

He did say "most likely":

"“I plan to play the Aussie Open next year and most likely finish then,” he said.

“Personally, I'll be looking towards the grass court season and most likely finishing...

Re: Your reaction when Murray gets his 3rd Slam?

"Very nice for him", I'd guess. Unless the circumstances are significantly different from what I expect them to be, that is.

Re: Tomic "The scheduling was like ridiculous this year"

Wimbledon usually does the same, I think. At least one match on No. 1 Court. OTOH, I don't think Wawrinka made a single appearance on Centre last year.

Yep, sure has.

Re: So why exactly is the defending champion's match vs a higher ranked opponent.....

Yes, distinctly unfair.

Except that Fed's later 2 matches got moved into the day session while Nadal had the night session. Not sure that benefited Fed.

Re: Who can save tennis from another Djokovic-Nadal AO final?

But as things stand, there is still the possibility of a Murray/Djokovic final. I don't know if I can bear to watch it if that *is* the case.

AO: How *are* the second half playing?

I haven't actually seen any of the AO, unfortunately, so have been wondering how well the second half of the draw have actually been playing. It looks from the scores as though Raonic has been...
