Re: Roger Federer def James Blake 7-5 7-6(5) 6-4 : 41consecutive win vs US players

Omigod! Blake must be a terrible player - he lost to Federer!

LIKE EVERY SINGLE OTHER PERSON WHO"S PLAYED HIM IN A NON-CLAY SLAM OVER THE LAST FOUR YEARS! (except for Marat once)

Blake is not the...

Re: Blake crushes Russell 6-3,6-2,6-2

It's funny then how Blake is undefeated against 5 of the current top 10, and only has a losing record to 4 of the 15 players ranked above him.

Re: List 'em down: the current unbroken/ unmade records to date

Why does NYCtennis (in his thread about streaks) have Borg down at 49?

Well, if Vilas the record at 46, Fed need only win 11 more matches. That would mean winning Dubai and Indian Wells. He could...

Re: List 'em down: the current unbroken/ unmade records to date

109 titles seems the hardest of those records to break, but it's not at all impossible to envision Fed winning 10 titles every year for the next six years.

Other records:

Pete's record of ending...

Re: James Blake (5) def Robby Ginepri: 7-6(7) 7-5 6-2 (!!!).

Didn't see this match --- sounds like James was just okay -- I think it's a pretty respectable score against Ginepri -- maybe he was tighter because this is one of his best friends?

Anyway, tough...

Re: Ginepri v Blake...can it be closer than you think?

I honestly think James is playing the tennis of his life -- even better than the Masters' Cup -- but of course it's always possible he won't bring it tonight.

Re: James in Oz 2007

Good job James! Nice not to get flustered by Alex's fast start.

He swept 18 of the last 22 games.

James is playing some of the best tennis of his life -- hope there's no letdown!

Re: James in Oz 2007

Hi Jlee! I stayed up and watched the whole thing -- my baby woke up and I had to feed him at 5-4 in the third set!

But a really good performance. I can't believe how much his serve, return, and...

Re: Blake def. Moya, 7-6(8) 6-2 6-4

Sorry for Carlos -- hope he goes on to have a great year.

Some amazing stuff from James. Great serving - wasn't broken once. Whereas he was destroying Moya's second serve. Only one hiccup -- a few...

Re: Tuesday (1/16/07 ) OOP + SCORES

Wow. Blake is playing some fantastic tennis. Ignore the racists and anti-Americans and enjoy the sport.

Re: James in Oz 2007

For some reason, I'm up at 3 AM watching James' first round match! Yikes!

I've always supported James for more or less sentimental reasons, but I have to say, I'm so impressed by how well he plays ...

Re: No more play on outer courts today?

Do the outside courts have lights so they can play there into the night?

Re: James in Oz 2007

Thanks for the nice pics, Mr. J! You think the rematch will be at night? I think it might be earlier in the day so it can be seen on American TV, but I could be wrong.

Here is a nice article -- more...

Re: James in Oz 2007

The choking is awful, but I can't complain too much when he's undefeated and title-winning already in 2007!

Re: Sydney Double! Blake d. Moya 6-3 5-7 6-1 for 2nd Consecutive Sydney Title!

Typically gracious comments from classy Carlos:

"Maybe I'll lose again against him next week, but if I play like this, I'll be happy anyway because that means I'll be losing to a great player, a...

Re: Blake versus Moya - Who will win? (Part 1)

Yes but Blake has integrity so he wouldn't tank a match (see last year's brutal final in Sydney):)

Re: James in Oz 2007

James has spent about 2 1/2 hours on the court -- I think that's excellent. His draw in Melbourne is not easy. I think he should beat Moya, but the former finalist is certainly not a dream first...

Re: James in Oz 2007

Yes, hopefully James can make it through it to the final without expending too much energy so he won't run out of steam early in Melbourne like he did last year.. He actually wasn't playing that well...

Re: James in Oz 2007

Good start for Jimmy B! Is he playing Koubek next? Nice chance for some revenge after that horrible choking loss 5 years ago in Melbourne!

Yes I agree, that's a first tough match of the season.. Could easily see James losing that one, but hopefully not!

Re: is Kolya a counter-puncher or not ???

Aren't the distinctions kind of subtle?

I think Davydenko at his best plays in the Agassi style -- I wouldn't call that counter-punching, but at the same time it's more about a steady aggressiveness...

Re: Heating it up Indoors!

To improve for James: his serve and his toughness.

He had no choice but to go for it against Federer. He never would have beat him playing safe. But James was off. Plus Fed's backhand was awesome...

Re: Blake needs to get mean, quickly.

I don't think it has anything to do with Blake's attitude. Federer just exposes all the weaknesses in his game and his strengths don't affect Roger. Roger has a much better serve, a much better...
