Re: Richard Gasquet : "Roger Federer is the monster of greatness."

Richard lost most of the backhand to backhand rallies of the match, or at least was pushed way out of position. When that happens, the chances of winning are going to be pretty slim. As it turned...

Re: Toughest matchup for Rafa?

Del Potro when he was playing well. The demolition at the USO in 09 was not a fluke. Davydenko on hardcourts. Novak as well (but he is a bit more defensive, so he doesn't quite trouble Nadal like...

Re: McEnroe says Nadal has better volleys than Federer.

Some of the comments on this topic are absurd. Federer is easily one of the best volleyers on tour, multiple players have stated that they would pick his volleys if they had to choose one particular...

Re: Best ROS ever?

Agassi/Coria/Djokovic/Murray/Ferrer/Davydenko/Hewitt. They all had pretty extraordinary ros's.

Re: Murray - Federer H2H

Federer has largely gotten the better of Murray in the H2H (and Djokovic too), this despite being disadvantaged tremendously by being older and playing in venues that largely favor Murray's game.

Re: Change in the Federer forehand from 2007 onwards

I think a lot of the balls have been changed, and with surface slowdowns, its less advantageous to hit such a flat trajectory as Federer did in his prime. As others said, he tends to hit more rally...

Re: Who's got the best 2nd serve?

A lot of the younger generation actually have good 2nd serves. Tomic, Dolgo, Cilic, Dimitrov, Harrison etc

Federer's 2nd is great (it got good late in his career, eg 2006-2009) and so is...

Re: Better Forehand - Roddick , Djokovic , Murray

Roddicks forehand became a liability in later years, but in his peak was as good if not better than Novaks. Murray's fh, while underrated, is not in the same league

Re: Why do Fed fans deem Hewitt, A Rod and Saffin compared to Murray, Djoko and Nadal

In so far as talent is concerned, i'd say Safin and Nalbandian are right up there with Murray/Djokovic and Nadal who are more talented than Roddick and Hewitt.

In terms of results, Djokovic and...

Re: Are Federer's serve and forehand too wristy now?

The Federer forehand was one of the most incredible mixes in tennis history. A very flat, penetrating trajectory that was also hit with a lot of wrist to make the ball explode off the ground.

Re: Prime Fed vs. Prime Rafa in USO/Wimby

That's probably a little closer to what sounds reasonable. Again, it depends on what court at the USO. If they play on early 2k USO courts with those old balls, Nadal would struggle even winning...

Re: Prime Fed vs. Prime Rafa in USO/Wimby

It somewhat depends on the conditions and the type of balls used. If you recall, Nadal used to struggle at the USO and his forehand would barely penetrate at all as they played with more dead balls...

Re: Greatest Tweener of All Time

I still think the Santoro shot at Wimbledon or the Federer 2009 shot were the best i've seen. Santoro's lob was just ridiculous, and he doesn't telegraph it like Nadal and Del Potro.

Re: Nadal's ability to punish slices

Federer deals with slices very well, and probably has a better backhand wing, especially against slices and low flat balls where you can see him really punish them and where his bh really shines. ...

Re: Nadal's ability to punish slices

I rarely see him miss fhs due to slicing. This is really unusual for an extreme grip like the one he uses. Normally this type of style is very susceptible to framing, and its hard to come over the...

Yea pretty much this, along with Haas. Take your pick.

Re: All the great players are 25 again, who would dominate?

The only lock is really Nadal at the FO, assuming he's allowed a modern racquet. I feel that he'd beat Kuerten np. Fed and Sampras would battle it out at Wimbledon. Roger definitely wins on slow...

Re: Hamburg R3: Federer def. Hajek 6-4 6-3

Still has control issues. Has zero confidence in the dtl bh and missed several. Forehand also was missing a lot.

Serve actually looked ok, but percentage is bad.

Re: Rank Nadal's tennis years.

In terms of level of play

1) 2008 by a large margin. The best player in the world on clay and grass and his slow hc game was coming around. USO balls were still bad for him (wouldn't take his...

Re: Borg vs Nadal

Borg was probably a greater athlete than Nadal (yes even peak Nadal). I don't think tennis has ever had an athlete like Borg. There might be a few players faster in a pure sprint, but not many and...

Re: One Handed Backhands on High Balls

It's actually significantly easier to hit a one handed bh high ball over your head than a 2hander. The 2hander has an easier time from about shoulder height to the head area and then it switches...

Re: andrei agassi's prime

He was pretty close to prime in 95, but I think his best was in 98-99 during his comeback. He still had some speed but more importantly he was hitting the ball as cleanly and intelligently as he...

Re: The best ground strokes in tennis

Federer, Djokovic, Safin, Agassi in their respective primes.

Nadal, Nalbandian, Murray and a few others are closeish as well (but perhaps not quite in the same category).

Re: Design a player that could regularly compete/beat Nadal on clay

Karlovics first serve
Isners second
Nalbandians Backhand
Federer's forehand
Borgs movement
McEnroe's volleys
Novak Djokovics return of serve

Throw in some of David Ferrer/Lleyton Hewitt tenacity for...

Re: Ferrer's career trajectory

Ferrer was always good. But perhaps more than any other player, he has benefited from the slowing down of court conditions and the new heaviness of tennis balls. He is freakishly strong for a man...
