Re: 2016 Live Commentary Thread vol. 3

Like that. Spread out the court. Stop feeding Nole with pace.

Re: 2016 Live Commentary Thread vol. 3

Federer is actually playing fine -- generally -- the problem is that he's feeding a Djokovic that is treeing off of his shots. He needs to slow everything down and spread out the court -- to have any...

Re: AO QF: (3)Roger Federer def. (6)Tomas Berdych 7-6(4) 6-2 6-4

Lovely form, actually. The best I've seen from Fed in his altered, large-racquet game, against a well-playing, seriously troubling opponent.

Re: Novak 100 unforced errors Djokovic beats Simon 6-3 6-7 6-4 4-6 6-3

A lot of UEs, unconverted BPs, and brainfartesque drop shots ...

And yes it is actually true: real soft and occasionally varied pushing is the way to get Nole off his game.

EDIT/POSTMATCH...

Re: Does Anyone Agree with Nadal's Assertion that Tennis is Becoming Crazy?

That tennis has changed or become crazy? Not really. As others -- including Nadal himself -- have said, Rafa isn't making players hit from difficult positions and off difficult balls as often as he...

Re: US Open Final : [1] Djokovic def [2] Federer 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4

Strong work from Nole. Very strong. Great shots and serves when they were needed.

Federer and his BP conversion rate. SMH.

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 27

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 27

Federer needs to pull Nole out of position with his approaches, not just rush and bluff. And now losing focus with that drop shot.

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 27

Finally! Due to a mix of stellar defense and patient deep rallying, waiting for the right shot to pull Nole out of position. Going for winners from the backcourt is not necessary.

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 27

Great approach and volley. Needs to do that on a BP?

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 27

Great short super-angled forehand and approach to knock off volley. That's the recipe.

Re: US Open R4: Anderson def. Murray 7-6(5) 6-3 6-7(2) 7-6

Anderson held tough throughout the match, then peaked mightily at the right time. Was lovely to watch for a guy that's had such a hard time with nerves in his career.

Murray: not the time to be falling back as you hit backhands.

Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 26

All of a sudden, Kevin is quite able to hit groundstrokes.... Let's see if he can continue to do so while serving for the set again.

Re: USO R4: [5] Wawrinka def. Young, 6-4 1-6 6-3 6-4

Solid for the last two sets. Might become dangerous.

Young was good, but so many of his balls have little on them...and you can't win when you're not taking clearly presented opportunities to end...

Re: Montreal QF : (4) Kei Nishikori def. (7) Nadal 6-2 6-4

Key played well.

Meanwhile, still so strange to see a multiple slam champion suddenly become mentally frail.

Re: Wimbledon Final: Djokovic def. Federer 7-6(1) 6-7(10) 6-4 6-3

That was relentless excellence and intensity from Djokovic. Superb. And fully earned third -- yes, third -- win at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile I must, again, express my doubts about the 97-frame for...

Re: Wimbledon SF: Gasquet def. Wawrinka 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-4 11-9

Well deserved. Love that backhand. So happy for Richard, after his years of wandering.

Stan was not on top form and yet almost gutted it out. He'll be back in the Final Four of a slam in no time....

Re: Wimbledon R4: (2) Roger Federer def. (20) R. Bautista Agut 6-2 6-2 6-3

All seemed fine till Federer had those 5 missed match points on RBA's serve. And we realized two things: he was beating up on a lower ranked (and slightly injured) opponent, and this may easily the...
