Re: Murray, the worst top 4 ranked clay courter of all time?

Tim Henman was dire on clay courts, one French Open Semi-Final apart, I still have no idea how he managed to get so deep into Roland Garros that year.

Re: Stakhovsky Withdraws from Mons Challenger in Protest of Davis Cup Tie Being Moved

Didn't even know there was a challenger in Mons. Do now. That Stakh promotion.

Re: Davis Cup 2015 World Group Draw

Murray came out for independence today, so that would be fairly fraught if he did. I wouldn't be surprised if he got booed at the stadium if it's held in England. Hell there's a good chance he'll be...

Re: French undecided on surface for Davis Cup final -

Ha! A Grass court in France??

I would love it for the sheer balls though.

Re: Federer Wawrinka final in USopen?

If he turned up even 3/4 he'd beat Murray on current form.

Re: Federer Wawrinka final in USopen?

Would be ironic if Stan refound his HC form and then beat Federer in the final.

Re: Current US Open odds

Djokovic has to be favourite. Federer is a strong second if Nadal doesn't play. However if Djokovic carries his current form into the US then the route looks open for Fed (barring Nadal playing).

Re: So we've done underachievers... So who are the biggest overachievers?

I would actually class Henners as an underachiever, his game wasn't based on power it's true but he played in an era where the courts were faster this was less of a disadvantage than the modern game....

Re: How would Nadal fare against Sampras on grass?

90s grass yes but in an era where Nadal can grind out grass court wins over Federer it's not so clear cut. Nadal vs Sampras on second week incredibly slowed down grass is a different matter.

Re: What is your wish for a revamped tennis season?

A grass masters, even if it requires bribing some Russian oligarch to build a massive tennis complex in the English countryside that is used once a year.

Dump Madrid give it to South America and give us a damn grass court masters somewhere!

Re: Is it written in the stars for GB to win the Davis Cup this year?

If Henman and Rusedski can't win the thing, then Murray and a bunch of nobodies won't.

Re: Indian Wells SF: [7] Federer routines [28] Dolgopolov 6-3 6-1

He's just blessed with great genetics. He has had some injuries though, end part of '13 was wiped out by that back injury even if he played through it and there was the mono illness.

Re: Who is the best player without a slam final ?

Henman. He has the most SF's of the contenders, across the most surfaces but just didn't have the mental strength to convert one. A little more mental strength and more luck (running into the #2 best...

Re: Imagine there was a Grass Masters since 2000, WWW?

While I don't think Henman would have beaten Federer on grass in 2004 ('02 or '03 I think it's possible), using his record against Hewitt as an example is just plain wrong, Hewitt had the perfect...

Re: Should wooden tennis courts be brought back?

The Palace Hotel in Torquay still has wooden courts. Incidentally the same place where Sue Barker learned how to play.

Re: DC R1 Rubber 4: Murray (GB) def. Querrey (USA) 7-6 6-7 6-1 6-3, GB win 3-1.

Holy crap Britain actually won a Davis Cup World Group game! Oh yeeeeah.

Shame we're likely back on the dirt against Italy though.

Re: Bigger upset? Nadal losing to Soderling or Stan

He'd already broken him, good enough for me to call it half a set.

Re: Bigger upset? Nadal losing to Soderling or Stan

Stan was battering a fit Nadal in the first set and a half until Nadal tweaked his back. No escaping this loss through injuries.

Re: Does Federer still has excuses not to win Davis Cup?

A six times GS Semi Finalist, a Grand Slam finalist, both of whom had career highs of #4, numerous years in the top 10 and both men won masters titles? On face value they should do well in Davis Cup...

Re: Does Federer still has excuses not to win Davis Cup?

Just having two good players doesn't mean you should win the Davis Cup. Britain had Henman and Rusedski in the late 90s, both top 10 players, one a huge server and the other a great volleyer, so in...

Re: Is Federer kicking himself now for his performance vs Nadal?

Wawrinka was still hitting Nadal off the court for the first set and a half when Nadal was fully fit. Even if he hadn't injured his back, it was looking like a Wawrinka win.

Re: WWW ? AO SF : Federer vs. Nadal

Nadal's not playing well but Federer has a mental block against Nadal larger than Switzerland's gold reserves. I get the feeling that Fed will win the first set, have opportunities in the others...
