Re: 2015 Live Commentary Thread vol. 11

Wonder what Goffin's plan is for the second set. May as well order a taxi now.

Re: The United Kingdom General Election thread

The type of coalition is relevant surely! It is one thing to have a party with 260+ seats relying on one or two minor parties, and quite another to have a couple of parties on 120 seats with any...

Re: The United Kingdom General Election thread

He will of course survive.

Not sure about these, as I haven't been following this closely enough. However, I would be amazed if there was a full wipeout of non-SNP people.

Of course UKIP will...

Re: The United Kingdom General Election thread

It isn't obvious to me that electoral reform, which let's face it just means proportional representation at this point, is going to improve our politics. It will just create an incentive for the...

Re: Lleyton Hewitt to skip French Open and focus on (last) Wimbledon and Davis Cup

Not sure why you feel the need to stoop to this. It is called arguing, and people can legitimately disagree.

But anyway, you have persuaded me because I do agree that Hewitt does have an energy...

Re: "Ukraine cancels trade pact with EU" and "thousands gather in Kyiv for pro-EU ral

No, it is 73 years since Sevastopol was taken by Germany, ending the siege we are talking about. The final defeat of Germany was of course 70 years ago.

I don't want to mock the Soviet contribution...

Re: Lleyton Hewitt to skip French Open and focus on (last) Wimbledon and Davis Cup

As has been said, Ivanisevic had been injured, and it was legitimate to feel he could still be a threat on grass. But so what? Even if I had hypothetically opposed it for the same reason, I would...

Re: Lleyton Hewitt to skip French Open and focus on (last) Wimbledon and Davis Cup

Goran won the tournament, which is a pretty good indication that he was worth a wildcard slot. I don't think anyone is saying that Lleyton will do that, and in fact he is unlikely to make it past the...

Re: "Ukraine cancels trade pact with EU" and "thousands gather in Kyiv for pro-EU ral

Well, I think I agree, but when you argue that Nazis were not patriots, that would certainly not have been their subjective opinion on the matter.

I would also put more emphasis on trying to...

Re: Weeks in Top 5, Top 10, etc

If Rafa wins Madrid, Nishikori must beat Raonic in the semi-final in order for Rafa to fall out of the top five - that is literally the only way it can happen this week. With that out of the way, it...

Re: Lleyton Hewitt to skip French Open and focus on (last) Wimbledon and Davis Cup

This does raise the question whether he should be taking a wildcard spot for Wimbledon. If he can qualify, fair enough, but otherwise it is just an ego trip at someone else's expense. He isn't good...

Re: Weeks in Top 5, Top 10, etc

If he wins in Madrid and does well in Rome, he could survive in the Top five. Not that unlikely, actually.

Re: "Ukraine cancels trade pact with EU" and "thousands gather in Kyiv for pro-EU ral

False dichotomy. I think the Germans in the 1930s and 40s loved their country, I would say too uncritically, because in their minds it justified all kinds of horror, especially what was done in the...

Peak Potro is clearly ahead here, then Stan, sadly.

Re: 5k USD or meet your idol?

I'd meet Andy just so I could ask him why he plays like such a mug most of the time.

Re: "Ukraine cancels trade pact with EU" and "thousands gather in Kyiv for pro-EU ral

Yeah, not sure how I came up with that number. I think the units being 3 made me feel it wasn't a significant anniversary, although I actually hate the fact that so much history is only discussed...

Re: Murray, the worst top 4 ranked clay courter of all time?

Yes, I'm happy he is working with Jonas, who definitely knows the game, and I agree I thought I saw a few signs of his influence. He wasn't that great on clay himself though as I recall.

Re: Princess name?

This must be in the top 20th percentile of threads on MTF for interest and relevance. Not that I'm that happy about it, as a Republican, but that's life.

Henman and Rusedski, Jonas Bjorkman, to name a few, maybe Tommy Haas also.
