Australian Open FQR: Mannarino def. Polansky 6-1 6-3

Three dominant wins for Adrian Mannarino in this qualifying session. Only 9 points lost on serve today. Still undefeated in 2013. Looks like he's recaptured his form and he will be a dangerous out...

Australian Open FQR: [2] Berankis def. Capdeville 6-2 6-1

First qualifier for the 2013 Australian Open is Ricardas Berankis. Great easy win for him here after barely escaping his last match v Klahn. Only six points lost on serve. Will be a dangerous threat...

Re: Which pro players had the least amount of weapons?

De Voest has more offensive ability than guys like Devvarman or Cipolla but I picked him because his offense still isn't particularly notable whatsoever, and he doesn't have any real strengths...

Re: Ross Hutchins diagnosed with cancer

Hopefully everything works out for Ross. Cancer is scary, regardless of the severity of it.

Re: Australian Open QR2: Young def. [9] Blake 7-5 6-4

Very windy conditions so far in the qualifying session. The courts are playing fairly quickly.

Australian Open QR2: Young def. [9] Blake 7-5 6-4

Horrendous match from James. Errors galore from forehands and backhands, terrible footwork. Had no range on his shots. Donald competed hard and hit some very nice counterpunching shots. Didn't make...

Re: Who will reach the semis in the second quarter?

I'll go with Ferrer, but I'm tempted to vote for Baghdatis.

Brugues-Davi def. Yang 7-5 4-6 6-3

Brugues was 5-1 up in the third set which became *5-3 30 all, but was able to come through in the end. Good win for him.

Re: Fed's QF streak has ended.

Roger has received many tough draws in the past, been doubted, and always come through. I don't see why this time won't be any different.

Australian Open QR2: Stebe def. [WC] Feeney 7-5 6-4

A little tougher than expected maybe but the German was always in control and had leads throughout the match. 5 breaks of serve in the second set. Stebe saved BP against him at *4-3 in the second set...

Re: Qualifying Draw

De Bakker has looked better the last few months. Of course those results have primarily been on clay. Struff can outhit a lot of players when he's hot.

Re: Qualifying Draw

Smyczek def. Barton 3-6 6-4 6-1

More consistent, solid player won. Matt Barton has nice talent but makes too many errors.

Re: Qualifying Draw

Struff def. De Bakker 6-4 6-1

Expected that match to be much closer. That always looked to be a tough match for both. Good win for the German. He's really starting to pull things together.

Australian Open QR2: Struff def. [13] De Bakker 6-4 6-1

This match looked like it had the potential to be very tough and competitive, and it was for most of set one, but Struff broke De Bakker to win the first set and won seven straight games through the...

Re: Australian Open Men's Singles Draw (in just over an hour)

Time for Roger to buckle up. Actually the tougher draw will be good for him, he can't coast through this draw. He's going to need to be sharp and that will help him in later rounds, IMO.

Re: Qualifying Draw

Brands is a good server but not an elite one. He hits the ball hard, but makes errors. And he's not that fast nor that great a volleyer. Sort of a limited player.

Frank isn't what he once was, but...

Capdeville def. Hernych 6-4 6-4

Surprising win for Capdeville. I'm definitely, definitely not a fan of him, however, so this result doesn't please me. I would have expected Hernych to take this. But...

Re: Australian Open Entry List/Fact Sheet (updated January 8, 2013)

Mahut likely wouldn't have won a singles match. It's for the best he's not in the singles MD so he can continue his recovery and focus on doubles.

Kukushkin I read was supposed to be out until...

Re: Qualifying Draw

If I have to pick I say Johnson. Better serve and bigger forehand. I think he can impose himself.

Australian Open QR2: Johnson def. [6] De Schepper 7-6(6) 7-6(4)

The famed collegiate came from a minibreak down in both tiebreakers, as well as saved 3 BPs scattered throughout set two, to win the match in straights. Very good win for Steve after his long match...

Re: Qualifying Draw

Berrer def. Herbert 7-5 6-3

Sela vs Berrer final round match. The loser has a fair shot at a LL position.
