Re: The Federer Decline Thread (Federer will drop to number 4 next year)

From the Connors era on (i.e. ignoring Laver, Rosewall and the greats who came before them when eras were so different making things difficult to compare) the most amount of slams that anyone won...

Re: Will there be another Roger Federer?

I'm not sure how you can accuse anyone of being biased and not taking things into context since you're the king of hypocrisy and using selected data. I posted all of Sampras' and Federer's wins and...

Re: Will there be another Roger Federer?

What's ironic is that Sampras fans will question Federer's competition but Federer actually faced Agassi more times as a top 10 player between 2003-2008 (going 3-0) than Sampras faced Agassi between...

Re: Will there be another Roger Federer?

I had posted this on a different message board awhile back under a different username but wanted to bring it out and update it. This myth that Sampras had to face tougher competition is simply a...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

Context is everything and numbers don't always tell the whole story. 2005 was an aberration given that he got injured in the Fall of 2005 and played the WTF having had no match practice for a couple...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

Your calculation of 14% was dismissed as arbitrary because it was arbitrary. Essentially, you said that since Federer's peak level of play was to win 14 out of 16 Slams from 2004-2007(by calculating...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

All you're doing is selectively manipulating the numbers to "prove" what you want to believe. Why don't use post Federer's numbers from the WTF from 2003-2007 (including 2005) and compare them with...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

First off, I don't think it's possible to quantify how much Federer has dropped off. There is no magic formula. The numbers you pulled out are suspect since there is no real logic in counting all the...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

For comparison sake, if you look at the number of times Nadal has lost to someone other than Federer or Djokovic and not including matches where he retired, Nadal lost 8 times in 2005, 9 times in...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

He lost 24 times in total only 15 times to someone other than Nadal or Djokovic.

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

Also to note, of the 100 Grand Slams that have been played since 1987, only 13 have been won by someone 28 years or older. 2 by Lendl, 1 by Gomez, 1 by Becker, 5 by Agassi, 2 by Sampras, 1 by...

Re: Roger Federer Decline, his game, field getting stronger etc Thread

Federer played his best tennis from 2004 to mid 2007. During the time, his tennis was free-flowing and a combination of fluidity, improvisation and explosiveness. He could seemingly generate winners...

Q. What do you think about coming up the next generation, for example, Djokovic, Murray?

Re: Videos of Roger

These are probably videos most of you have seen before, but I was thinking that it would be cool to collect some of Federer's most amazing shots. The quality for some of the videos is poor, but I...

Re: Pete Sampras (1996) Vs. Roger Federer (2006)?

Here's an interesting statistic: Between 1993 and 1999, during Pete's dominant years when he won 11 of his 14 Slams, guess how many victories he had at a Grand Slam over the following list of...

Re: Pete Sampras (1996) Vs. Roger Federer (2006)?

Is this for real? Sampras fans like to throw out names to make Sampras' achievements look more impressive but if you actually look beyond the names, and look at the context it really isn't that...

Re: Pete Sampras (1996) Vs. Roger Federer (2006)?

Even if Sampras rushed the net, a neutral point in the rally would exist if Federer was able to get the return low. At that point, neither Sampras nor Federer would have an obvious advantage....

Re: Pete Sampras (1996) Vs. Roger Federer (2006)?

If you look at the serving stats that someone posted awhile back from the past 16 Wimbledon tournaments, you'll see that Federer's percentage of points won on his second serve eclipsed everyone else....

Re: Pete Sampras (1996) Vs. Roger Federer (2006)?

In the 2003 Wimbledon, Philippoussis was averaging 27 aces a match, but managed only 14 against Federer. In the 2004 Wimbledon, Karlovic was averaging 32 aces a a match, but managed just 14 against...

Re: For all those who moan and complain about Federer´s draw

Even if Federer is the overwhelming favourite in every grass match he plays, it still doesn't change the fact that aside from his 3rd round-match, he faces potentially the most difficult draw...

Re: Players' Comment on Roger

From an interview with Fabrice Santoro:

TM: Let's pass on to Marat Safin. You're his pet peeve (7 victories for 2 losses), but you also defeated twice the undeniable current N°1 Roger Federer, or...
